Have music... But how do I find out who made it?

I found a piece of music on the www (Not the full track, really more of a long sample) in poor quality(56 bit Mp3), which is very close to the athmosphere I want in a project.

It appears to be russian in style and with russian speach at the end, but how does one find out what it is and who made it?

Any advice would be appreciated!

I use my phone. I record it and it sends it off and returns the artist and song title :) TrackNow I think they called it.

That's the problem. I only have an audio file, which noone here seems to know how we got our hands on, except that it came from the internet, not from a file sharing service.

The filename is rush.mp3

I'm propably going to try posting on some russian music sites, and see what comes up.

Frankly I don't know the precise term, but it not blues. It's propably more like trance.

Yes, but to no avail. The audio clips don't match.

I can't really tap the rythm. It's very aetheric and only has a real rythm in parts.

If I wanted to post a clip on my website, how much would be the legal limit?

The music shops on the internet apparently use 30-60 secs clips.

How big do you estimate the chance that some RIAA or whatever finds out you have an mp3 in some corner of your website, of which they can find the link in a thread of some programming language they never heard of?

I think 15 secs is acceptable if no profit is being made from distribution, but don't quote me on it.

Well, it's really more of a clip of a clip, but 15 seconds aren't going to give anyone any clue as to the music.

If I had to guess where I'd heard it, it would be on a TV commercial for a dance compilation -- I could be wrong, but store yourself up for it being commercial rather than scene.

..well..one piece of advice...after I brought andreymans lib, I promise to myself that I will never ever buy something from russians, doesnt matter how good or cheap..so, rather risking all your work becouse od some fellas from russia music clip, try to find something else..world is big enough...

And hey, at the very least the RIAA takedown notice will say that you are illegally distributing <song x> from <artist y> published by <company z>...

I am well aware of the tendency to disregard intellectual rights in the former soviet union, but I know some really talented people with backbone and integrity over there, so don't fall into the trap of thinking that russians are all bad.

Russian women are great, Vodka is great, and if it hadn't been for the soviets during WW2, my german would be much better than it is.

Well, fortunately you didn't take it down before I downloaded it. Take a look at Darude.
I'm not sure which song that is, I can't find that clip in any of the samples I've listened to. It might be the title track from the Rush CD, but any samples I can find of that song do not include that clip. It is possible that it was originally from a rip of the entire CD, trance-techno-electron music tend to flow from one track to the next without any breaks.
But if you listen to the samples that are available, the style is definately his.

I ran into something simmilar to this. I didnt have a genre, and the song had come from a TV commercial. To find out, I went to a place online thats usually in the buisness. Music in this case.

This place, was www.towerrecords.com

I kindly told them, about a song I like on a TV commercial. In fact, I didnt know what kind it was. I called it TRANCE, or something (sound familiar) The only way to describe it, was to tell how it went etc. It was very musical, but if there was vocals, it wasnt in words.

HUH? This song, had a female use her voice in melody as upposed to the normal words. If I wrote down the lyrics, it would of been

'OHHH" or "Ahhhh" (get the point?) She sang, but used it in melody. This type of music, was eventually called "new age'


Andy, if I could help you in this problem, it is too tell you to go to people that are in the buisness to KNOW this stuff. Give your local CD, music seller place, a call (or whatever they are called) IN the city of Boston, Tower records is pretty big, and the knew the answer in less than 24 hours. :)

EDIT: Oops -- megapipped by Pert! I couldn't have avoided finding out what this was today, it was getting played at work and then in the local Virgin at lunch.

Not exactly, I heard it on the advert for the CD's and thought "what the hell, I like the music anyway" and bought them.
