My DVD`s get stuck in my DVD every now and then (won`t eject) on winxp, is this a known problem or is it just my drive? I`m wondering if there is a way to fix it as the drive works fine most times.

The eject button has nothing to do with the os, if you push it it tells the dvd to eject, it does not send a request to the OS saying please eject the dvd.

if you right-click on the drive and choose 'eject', does that work?
Might just be the drive's eject button that's knackered.
They're cheap to replace anyway. I have a stack of them that I bought with OEM operating systems.

I've seen occasionally that installing or running some software directly off the disk does 'lock' the drive. Once you re-boot it seems fine.
This happens to me, ocassionally. I just use the method Gfk describes.
don't forget the paperclip in the manual eject hole method.
If you are talking about it just happening with writeable DVD's then this can happen - sometimes it takes ages for Windows to stop noncing about with the disk.
It could also be that you have a program such as DirectCD (bundled with some Cd burning software) installed, which does some dynamic translation to allow you to write directly to CD from within any program as if it were a floppy disk or something... but it can lock the CD tray in the process, disabling the eject button.

Known problem. A reset will fix it - but what worked for me was CloneCD. Getting CloneCD to eject the tray by trying to copy something (thus prompting for a disc), then quitting out had CloneCD unlock the tray for me.
Nowadays I use Vista and don't have the problem anymore (not sure I ever had it with XPSP2 either), but I'm sure whatever CD software you use would probably help in a similar way.

I used to do that until I almost frazzled the drive. Don't do that while it's on.
I've seen that as well... I don't remember what I used to get around it but it was a pain in the butt. Haven't had it happen in xpsp2
The surefire way to get this to happen is to have Nero crash whilst/before unlocking the drive after writing.
and do not use the paperclip trick whilst it is on as there is normally bare circuitry right above/below the hole. wobble that paperclip and *spark* =dead drive.
