Macbook Pro Users

Can I just ask what configs you guys with Macbook Pros went for. I know for sure that I want a 15 inch screen but cannot decide if I should upgrade the ram and harddrive to larger sizes.

The default config comes with 2gb of ram and a 160gb harddrive. This sounds ample to me, my question is is it worth upgrading or will I never need more than this for most things?

mine is 17' screen, nVidia 8600GT, 250 gigz HD...

Mine is in my sig, but in case you have those turned off, it's the 17" version with 1GB of RAM and 120GB hard drive. Plenty for my needs, so the one you're looking at should be just fine.

I've been eyeing these up again and was about to take the plunge when my car insurance hit my bank account :(... Oh well, anyway the advise I would like to impart is to look at the graphics card - as an indie developer it will serve you well to have a laptop with a good graphics card as it cannot be upgraded. The entry level and older Mac Book Pro's do no not have as good a graphics as the two current top models.

15", 1GB, think it's a 120GB HD or something.

What are the keyboards like to work with on the pro? I kind of like the simple look of the Macbook ones more.

I have a 15", came with a 100GB drive and 1GB of RAM. I upgraded it to 2GB of RAM. RAM upgrades are pretty easy to do yourself, and won't void your warranty. Hard drive upgrades can't be done by you unless you want to void your warranty, and you have a few tools.

1GB is really plenty for most people, 2GB or more is good if you want to use Parallels a lot, do development or high end video or image work.

My Macbook Pro came with an X1600 with 256MB of RAM, it performs quite well, so I'd assume the newer models with the 8600 will end up being even better as the drivers improve.

The keyboard is the best I've used on a laptop.

I got the 15 inch, 2.66Ghz, 160GB hard drive, 2GB RAM.

The Fkeys are weird as they fire off laptop vlume and screen stuff instead of fKey functionality (you can change this though). I find it a very smooth and nice keybaord (and touchpad + button) but I make a lot of mistakes because I normall use an MS Natural keyboard.
