This is a thread geared towards handheld/pocket digital media. I'm now wondering. If you were to record a TV show on your PC, or record a radio song/show, and you wanted to take that on the road with you, which portable device would seem to do best for digital media? Would it be the PSP, the iPAQ/Axim, Zune, Video iPod, Creative Zen (if anyone still uses those), or even a portable DVD player with an SD Card slot on it?

Yeah, I know about that, I was setting this up as a poll... Not to be confused with that, sorry for the misclarification.

I can't see the appeal of watching TV/films on a screen the size of a postage stamp, myself.
When I go away I usually take my laptop with a couple of movies saved on it... just incase the weather aint so good. Once, to save on luggage, I saved a couple of movies onto my camcorders HD... but thats only really good for one person viewing it though.
Aldi stores are advertising a 2gb mp4 player this week for less than £30... and according to the advert it'll hold about 3 hours of video & comes with PC software & leads etc... so I might have a look at that... quality probably won't be that great, but for £30 what can ya expect? lol

iPhone is supposed to be great for portable media, problem is that it's expensive as hell....
Anyhow, I vote no on the PSP since the memory cards for it are bloody expensive, and that 2-4gb doesn't really give you much on video duration unless you kill the quality.
No opinion on the other devices as I don't any of them.

Heh, yeah... I just wish that PSP would have used compression for videos much like what WMVs do for Pocket PCs, that would probably be the only real solution to that, is if Sony finally comes out with a compression utility for recorded tv or for camcorder videos to allow full playback on a PSP without too much of a quality loss... They may charge a ton for it, I'm quite sure.

It's a handheld that runs linux and has TV out. As far as I know it runs mplayer, which can play back most commonly used video format, so you won't have to convert your videos to some weird format (like with the iPod or PSP).

I use my cel phone(Nokia 6682). Its a couple years old now, but still serves its purpose as my portable "media tool". With my tiny 2gig RSMMC chip, I've used it as my primary MP3 player and occasionally stream web radio. Also used it to watch movies and TV shows I've formatted for it. Theres also a live TV streaming but its not that great (at least not in the US). Of course theres the typical mobile games - BUT i've also gotten emulators than run the old Sega Genesis, Master System, Super Nintendo, NES, Gameboy, GBA, MAME, and not mention than most of the N-Gage games run on it also. Also used it for reading PDF eBooks, and store certain text documents. Of course i have used it to check the web for directions and often for movie schedules. I make heavy use of the calender app for reminders schedules. Have used it for Instant Messaging (with AIM and MSN) on the road. Should also say that while its only a 1.3 megapixel camera, the photos do turn out nicely. And I like to record parties videos with it also. Yep, all of that packed into a little cel phone. Granted the screen is a bit tiny for some people, but its perfectly fine with me.

They make psp's that small!? jkjk, i would go with a pocket pc, just cause you might be able to write programs on it with bmax in the near future (prolly not, but still, as for media.. i would probably go for the psp, cause of a bigger screen).

I just got a 4GB card for roughly $US50. That's pretty cheap if you ask me.
I have a video iPod (30 gig) that I'm very happy with... the picture quality is pretty good for a screen that small. However, a PSP is more than just music and movies, and would probably be the best choice in my opinion.

I use the Ipod for this purpose, I have a dock as well for playing on old TV, quality is good both on the Ipod screen and on the old TV, encoding it to Ipod format is very annoying and time consuming. So the best media player imho is a laptop with dvd player (and a very good battery).
