Mouse problem

I´ve got a cheap notebook with xp home. There´s the builtin mouse sensor and button keys, but for some reason I often seem to click them accidently, and I have plugged a real mouse in the usb port, that I use to work. I tried to deactivate the built in mousepad thingie, without success. In the bios there's no option for mouse or keyboard. There´s also no "deactivate" option in the XP device manager(it's there for the other mouse tho). So I tried "deinstall driver", but XP automaticly reinstalls it when I reboot the machine. I simply can´t get rid of the bugous mouse.

Any ideas?

There really should be touchpad options under Control Panel/Mouse, but failing that you could check for hidden taskbar icons (customise the notification area to see).

Now after some hacking, I gathered the compatibility name, so now I know it's an "Alps GlidePoint/StickPointer" code pnp0f13. found a compatible driver by dell, intalled. works, but I still cannot deactivate it, but they say:

"Adds the feature where the touchpad/stick is disabled when a USB mouse is plugged in. This feature is disabled by default but can be enabled via a checkbox on the Devices tab in the Touchpad."

My xp is not english, so sometimes it's not so clear what we're talking about. What the hell is the "Devices tab in the touchpad" ???

No, but finally I managed it.
After the unsuccessfull setup of the dell drivers there was a dell folder on c: left, with a lot of files. I used to read the readme and then manually installed the mentioned INF file, all of a sudden it works. NEver trust a SETUP.EXE I'd say :)

But honestly, several hours to deactivate a mouse... :o)

You probably could also have disabled the touchpad hardware device under your control panel -> system devices
