Next game purchase...

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Next game purchase...

So finished Stalker about 2 weeks ago and found it very tasty. Some of the stuff in there was pretty original (wish more games tried for such original playworlds rather than endless bloody Tolkein/WW2/alien invasion variants). Didn't like the inventory interface - nor the voice telling me to 'come here' in russian in my ear at the very end, when I'm just trying to survive, also don't think the multiple endings really worked (given that one of them gave at least another hour of gameplay), - but overall, a great game.

But looking at the release schedule, seems there's a bit of a lull in up-coming AAA releases.

(The one that most catches my eye is Bioshock.)

What was wrong with the multiple endings?

Read my post again - I tell you why.

Yea, so you get another hour of game play. Whoopie doo.

Still yet to beat STALKER here, been taking my time with it as it's one of those rare cases where I *don't* want to finish the experience under two weeks.

Anyhow, regarding next purchase, there really isn't that much is there? Only thing I'm looking forward too (aside from an onslaught of RPG/SRPG titles for the DS) is Metroid Prime 3 for the Wii, due late August.

If you play through a game, watch the credits, say to yourself 'well that's that', possibly even uninstall, then read that the ending you played wasn't the best ending, what do you do? You either ignore it (with irritation) or you 'rewind' the game - which is akin to a sort of 'hack' and it damages the overall experience.

I'm not against multiple endings per-se, but I think they're problematic for the player.

Yeah - I was sorry when it was over, genuinely gripping in places.

No, and I'm a PC gamer. Also, I've been hearing rumours that Spore's been canned or postponed indefinitely...

I was just going to reply and say the only game I'm waiting for is Spore.

Dammit.

Not that I probably would've ended up buying it, when a rental for a couple of days would have satisfied my curiosity and I've boycotted EA. So I guess that wouldn't have answered your question anyway.

I guess the next game that's a definate purchase for me is Final Fantasy 13, but even then not until after the PS3 comes down in price, which is a long, long way away. I suppose if another TrackMania were to be released before then I'd get that, but last I checked there's no news on that front either.

Being there was two main quest lines, that should've hinted there was more than one ending.
You could install a mod that adds new features or makes features available that was broken/taken out.

When Crysis comes out I'll probably get that.

Well I'm having fun playing DDO (Dungeons and Dragons Online) in a purely casual manner. That can be translated as an hour or two a few times a week. Very fun especially if you played DnD as a kid. Not sure if you're in to MMORPGs.

As stated in my previous thread: Tomb Raider Anniversary

Personally I like multiple endings, it gives a game replay-ability, but it does depend on the way it ends, I know when i had BladeRunner (the point and clicky adventure) this had around 13 endings or something, I completed it twice with 2 different endings. It was very clever because there didn't seem to be a definitive point where the game split, it was very discrete, just the way people spoke to you was different and you got different answers out of people. Anyway, I completed it having killed all the replicants, and also completed it having helped the replicants escape having discovered I was one myself. Cool eh!

*SIGH* I was looking forward to this :(

Take the time to pick up a few old classics you missed at bargain basement prices. I just bought the last in the hitman series.

Tomb Raider Anniversary
OR
Half Life 2 (still haven't bought it!)
OR
Some casual game or another, although I get most for free at the moment.
OR
A PS2 or GC game to play with my boys. Maybe Paper Mario.

I'm waiting on Bioshock. Haven't played a PC game in ages now.

I just started playing Resident Evil 4 on the Wii, so hopefully that'll keep me entertained for a while.

Also Zelda on the DS looks good. It's coming out just before I get to go on a couple long plane trips.

I've recently picked up Okami for the PS2. Great game.
