Insurgency

Okay,
here you go. One of the most highly anticipated mods for HalfLife 2. Already 76 public servers and 13,000 downloads from FilePlanet alone, and it was just released a few hours ago.
The first release has a few little bugs, but nothing terrible. It has been well tested and well polished for the release except for some small server problems which couldn't have been spotted easily with the closed testing. (Consider this a very big open beta). There seem to be some performance issues, as well, introduced in just the last couple days of development.
Nonetheless, this is a very smooth and playable first release if you like slightly tactical first person shooters :)
The gameplay is really well implemented and smooth, and the graphics are fantastic.
Hurry up and uninstall Counterstrike! (And BF2!)
This is well worth a try :)
This might replace Red Orchestra as the only game I play.
Sounds awesome!
I think its time for me to go and finally buy Half-Life 2 :D
Great. Now I have to go reinstall HL2 and spend hours downloading patches on Steam.
@Gabriel
lol, ditto.
At least it means that Im ready for Ep2
I love my 20mb dowload. :)
Wow... that's incredibly fast. I can only ever get about 1.5MB/Sec download on my work connection.
Anyway, cool looking mod... like Gosse, I might have to go buy Half-Life 2 as well.
The current playerbase consists of 25% imbeciles and 99.9% people who don't "get it", actually, so you may want to wait a few days, as they filter back to CounterStrike, before it becomes as interesting as it can be. (That, and a few idiots found an exploit that reset servers yesterday, decided to use it to run through and reset every server... and the last day of development was a rush, resulting in significant performance trouble).
Well, I bought Half-Life 2 today, downloaded the mod, installed it. But... I'm now playing Half-Life 2 :S
Hey, comm3! Good taste Amon. I too have purchased it and have bitchin' internet:

Be prepared to sit down for a long while as that game is bloody difficulty.
Deus Ex, how much I wish to replay that, although I feel my memories of what was an excellent title may have been tarnished by my current experiences if I went back to re-experience it.
(that and I have no clue where disc of it went too)
Anyhow, so what exactly is the mod, just a team-based tactical shooter than tries to emulate some real-life situations (not having handy crap like minimaps and the sort)?
Looks interesting, but I'll be waiting for the beta2 before trying it out, as by then the majority of the common bugs will likely be squashed.
Actually, my complaint with the first 3 commandos games (BEL,BTCOD and II) were that they were ridiculously easy, so hopefully 3 is harder. I was rubbish at them to begin with of course, but with practice you can be insanely good. I bring them out every few months and play for a bit. I can finish the last mission of BEL in well under an hour (and the infamous Pyrotechnics in 20 minutes at most).
Number 3 slipped through the cracks because I didn't have a computer that would run it well, but I do now.
This might replace Red Orchestra as the only game I play.
Hmmm... and you're developing a fully featured game engine? Sounds like a car designer who drives only his Austin Allegro until it's replaced with Reliant Robin. You should be playing EVERY game out there, good and bad, and not even limit yourself to fps games.
I have been playing STALKER recently, too. There's not many games that interest me.
i have lots of games (mostly demos) installed - just for comparison. i check which things are good which are bad. i also check the technical side of the games... and i have to say, even AAA titles are sometimes extremely lame.... bugs, loooots of bugs e.g. alpha-z-ordering issues, false clipping shadows, weapon clipping, wrong grass, often not completely lightmapped or simply wrong lightmapped, some objects do not cast shadows at all, the playermodel casts shadows even if the lightsource is hidden by a huge wall and so on and so on. i could point out looots of issues. really lame for such big budget productions. i think the big ones could learn from some indie devs ;)
read my post and have a look at insurgency - you will definitely see those bugs.
Errrr, you do realize that Insurgency was not done by a huge team with a big budget, right?
yes its a small team, but these are bugs of the engine... or mostly. these bugs do not apply only to insurgency. take R6:Vegas - you will find the same... other engine -> same bugs.
Nevertheless - it makes fun to play. maybe we blitzer can join together on a server?? Anyone interested?
A lot of stuff you listed is just the way things work, not bugs.
- alpha zordering? can be fixed.
- weapon clipping? can be fixed even in blitz3d.
- no correct lightmapping? no bug, just lazyness.
- playermodel casts shadows even when no lightsource is "available"? turn it off then. where's the problem?
you see, not just "way things work", its lazyness or bugs.
i have fixed lots of those issues in my upcoming game (delivery). when i can do that with blitz3d, so why can't they do it in c/c++/... ?
but the thread is drifting away... how about a game leadwerks? gimme your steamname and i'll add you to my friends list..
