I keep getting "FireFox 2.0.4 ( or something similar ) is available" messages from FireFox, but all the previous information I've read suggested that FireFox 2 was a bit crap compared to 1.5, so I've been hanging onto 1.5. Is FF2 really ready for use now or is still a bit of a pain compared to 1.5?
Is FireFox 2 ready to use yet?
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Is FireFox 2 ready to use yet? I am using Firefox 2 and it is just like the previous versions. I don't see a difference at all.
A lot of people have found FF2 slower in some circumstances. I've known people to say they have gone back to 1.5.
If you want a slow browser, try Safari.
I use FF2 mostly. Sometimes have to go back to IE7 though. FF still seems to forget all its settings from time to time.

I think Opera is a slow browser.
Does anyone else's FF take forever to open? Sorry for the hijack. Thats the only slow part for me, getting it started.

Happens most of the time when I open it (I'm running ver 2.0.4), but I always assumed it was cause my computer is slow and only has 512 mb ram..
I'm using FF2 without any problems but yeah Ked, it is a bit slow to launch but still a lot faster than IE.
IE takes about 8-10 seconds to launch on my system!

Ok good. I thought it was just me because on my mom's laptop launches it immediately. Of course its faster than IE. Nothing personal to you IE people but I dislike IE. With the security problems and incorrect displaying of some web pages its too frustrating.
As an example: Some people are finding massive slow-down problems with FF2 and images.
My FF2 is only slow on a cold-boot (5-15sec), any other subsequent openings are 2-3 sec.
Anyhow, I been using FF2 since it came out, and have not had any major problems, albeit aside from the built-in spell checker (which I not can't live without), I couldn't really find anything new to appreciate in this rendition that I've made use of though...
Going to try me FF3 when it hits beta, currently in alpha 6 atm iirc.

It's fair to say that some of the masses of people having problems with FF2 might be using various plug-ins that are causing the problems.
Mine loads quickly and I've been using FF2 since it was in beta. Not much has changed other than that it's generally more stable, provided you don't install unstable extensions or plugins (those different things).
If you use FF1.5 switch
If your question was actually if FF3 is of use: no most likely not. The cairo stuff needs definitely much more attention.

Ok, sounds like all the complaints I was hearing have dried up so the next time it asks me, I'll say yes. It won't be the end of the world, as I tend to go back and forth between FF and Opera anyway.
Thanks for all the opinions/experiences.

Hmm... good timing.
Mine just refused to start because "it was already running".
There was a stuck instance of Firefox.exe using nearly 70mb.
Version 2.0.0.4 - thought that problem was fixed, til just now. :/

Mine asked if it could update from 1x and I allowed it. Now running 2x and it often throws that already running crap when my old 1x never did.
I run FF2 a lot, it takes a few seconds to load even on my 1.6ghz celery.
The only crashing i've experienced is with acrobat and some web page embedded movies (wmv/avi not flash).

I always stay away from PDF files. Serious jam-ups with them.
for PDF? use Fox-It :)
