Read this in another thread just now:

In order to submit your game to download sites, you need a real download. That is a direct link to the game on a website, not a link to SendSpace, RapidShare or something like that.

Assuming you can arrange that, you can submit your game for free if you don't mind creating the PAD file yourself. Once you've got a direct download for the game, send me an email to sybixsus@... and I'll give you the information you need to create yourself a PAD file. Once you've created it, I'll run the submission at no charge.

Just wondering - whats your criteria for getting this service for free?

I'm, only curious because its not that long ago that I paid for this service and if memory serves, I created my own PAD file.

The same criteria that I use for giving out free copies of any of my games or anything else, it's an "if I feel like it" basis. There aren't many joys to working 18 hours a day over a keyboard, and one of the few mild pleasures is giving stuff away when I feel like it.

If he wants to use the service, he'll be creating his own PAD file too, because I found the PAD file creation service was useless. Everyone was rewriting it after it was written, so my time writing it was just being wasted.

In this particular instance, I refuse - point blank - to take money from someone who claims ( and I have no reason to disbelieve ) to have sold not a single copy to submit a program which everyone and his dog is saying isn't going to sell. I've tried twice to download it and play it, but SendSpace doesn't work for me, so I'm just going to have to assume that everyone else is right, and that it won't sell. And no matter how good the service, an unsaleable game won't sell. If they're wrong and it does sell, I'm going to feel a hell of a lot better doing that work for no payment than I would charging him $30 and his game still doesn't sell.

I don't ask anyone to pay for the submission service until it's completed and they're happy with it, so I would hope no one who has paid for the service is unhappy with it. If they were or are unhappy with it, they've certainly never voiced it.

But in much the same way that a guy who owns a sweetshop can give sweets out whenever he chooses ( and I don't mind because he has never given me any reason to believe he won't charge me ) I like to think I have the right to give a game away or run the service at no charge if I want to. If you ( or indeed anyone else who's used the service ) don't feel that you got good value in your 600+ site submissions for $30, then just let me know whether you paid by Plimus or PayPal and I'll look it up and refund it.
