Demoscene Music becoming mainstream?

Spotted HelloGoodbye are kind of edging into the charts a bit, as soon as I heard this group it reminded stongly of "codermusic" from various games and demos. There are FX from pretty much every game in "All of Your Love". I know we've had synthi-pop before but I think this is different some of this could even be samples from some demos. I'm wondering if we might see more of this kind of thing over the coming years.

Crude distorted "8-bit" electro sounds are very trendy at the moment. You can spot them on many hit records.

If you want music that reminds you of old games you should check out some EBM or Electro-Industrial bands. Judging from your nick, you might also enjoy Aggrotech bands.

I prefer listening to crude original 8-bit music than listening to those guys. At teast the original had a meaning.

Or, go to the demoscene sites such as pouët.net and download some vintage demos, or various demos from old demo making crews.

If you have winamp and a broadband connexion, you should be able to have the scene radio playing.

Atari Teenage Riot's early stuff had lots of samples from games and stuff. A lot of the digital hardcore artists that followed did the same. "Delete Yourself" and "Midijunkies" are a couple that come to mind.

Also, Alec Empire did some solo stuff with similar sounds. Listen to the 'Nintendo Teenage Robots' album (or not coz it's rubbish)

I hope it will never go mainstream !

I hope it doesn't go mainstream too, its quite fun in its place. And some indie games do a good job of resurrecting the 80's. But I don't want to hear it in public as I go about my daily business or my ears will start to bleed.
