Hey guys, I just wanted to say that, thanks to all of the experience I've had with Blitz3D and various other stuff, I've landed an internship at Pandemic Studios over the summer! The position is straight C++ programming and engineering for one of their works in progress. Pandemic Studios are the guys who made Star Wars Battlefront, Mercenaries, Destroy All Humans, and Full Spectrum Warrior among other things. They're gearing up for a release of Mercenaries 2 and have another announced project in the works, Saboteur. So yea, they say breaking into the gaming industry is notoriously hard. Don't let that deter you! I've gone from Dark Basic to Blitz3D & BlitzPlus to some C++ programming and now here I am. So get working on those games! They said the big reason they picked me up is simply because I have the experience with actually making and programming games, which is what we're all doing here.

P.S. If anyone is looking for my demos of whatever (Beta Blocker, Mechanized Warfare) my web host went down so I lost all of the stuff I had uploaded there. I do have a new web host but I haven't uploaded everything in its entirety yet. The Mechanized Warfare demo is located here,

Are you fluent with C++? Will you be coding games, or what?
Congrats mate! :D
Congratz. :)
Well done.... as GFK says, can you reveal your job description ?
can you reveal your job description ?
it might just be making the Tea or something.
Working on the frontend? :P
I really like your work. With you there, I'm sure the quality of Pandemic's productions will increase dramatically :P
heeh I still have some pandemic condoms from E3 some years ago I never used :)
Congratulations.
Jonathan,
Thats probably the best news I have heard all day - well done! and Good luck!
IPete2.
Getting in the door is always the hardest part, congrats and good luck.
Congrats man. Hire me as soon as you are CEO :)
Hey guys,
GfK: Yea, I've since become fluent in C++ (even made a couple of small OpenGL programs). I'll be programming in C++ mostly with some Lua here and there. I don't see anything in the NDA that says I can't say what my job description is so... my job description is essentially supporting the project on low to mid-level engineering and production, being assigned a feature to implement to completion, and various other tasks. Well, I guess that's vague to begin with. Basically I'll be programming, not getting coffee (though they'll probably make me get coffee anyway). They told me that usually they assign the intern to another programmer so that he/she can glean off a lot of stuff but in my case they might assign me with a game designer to start working directly (exciting).
Wot 'e said.
I hope it's a paid internship, or you're getting screwed.
Thankfully it is paid =). If only I was paid for the hours the commute is gonna take, then I'd be making some money! Takes me through the heart of Los Angeles, passing downtown using the 10, 5, and 405 for both morning and evening commute. Wow. Still excited though.
Congrats Jonathan! Best of luck to you!
Jonathan, I emailed you a while ago with electrodev at gmail, glad to hear its working out for you! Still, I want Mechanized Warfare.
I love threads like these! :D
Congrats Jonathan :]

Sounds great well done, go for it!
gratz!
just out of interest, did they take your blitz3D work seriously or pass it off as a toy language?
Congratz!
I'm with Dabz, gives new hope to all aspiring programmers.
Congrats, wish I went that route. Good luck, have fun, and stay away from those government business web apps!!!!!!!!!!
Well, they called Blitz3D a scripting language, lol, but they took it seriously in the sense of what I learned from it. I still programmed particle engines, I still programmed the game play, I still basically made the game. However, I still needed to know about things like rotation matrices, quarternions, and whatnot.
