Dreamotion 3D - DX9 + Blitz3D = woof, woof

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Dreamotion 3D - DX9 + Blitz3D = woof, woof

I just spotted this in the gallery:
http://www.blitzbasic.com/gallery/view_pic.php?id=1611

It led me to this:
http://www.dreamotion3d.com/news.php

Blitz3d and BlitzMax are supported there.

Putting aside BMax - BLITZ 3D is there!

Anyone tried this with Blitz3D?

Let's have some info - this is most exciting.

Start discussing.

Except the non-cross-platform issue... this one is very easy and powerful.

I'm using it on my PB project, actually, excpet it's still on beta stage, it's a nice thing with commercial quality.

Considering B3DSDK is $100, DM3D is a gem for BMaxers....

Anyone tried this with Blitz3D?
There are no downloads for the Blitz3D version.

The Blitzmax version has a rating of 9.5/4! So, that's quite good, then.

[edit] Tried to download it and it tells me I don't have permission. Can't be bothered registering.

I have used this on spare time and I find it quite useful, at least worth a very close look. Rally easy to use and Dx 9. Only bad thing, I guess, french documentation only. Yet easy to figure out.

I found the Blitz3D pack!!!

Bark 'til it breaks!

However, the example doesn't work.

I get the feeling that Dreamotion's front page statement:
Dreamotion is a new 3D Game Engine powered by DirectX 9.0c.
It's fully compatible with many language, it used a Dynamic link library (DLL) for most flexibility to interfacing

Languages :
- BlitzMax, Blitz3d
- Purebasic
- C/C++
- Other...

Is actually meaning 'we might support Blitz3D in the future'.

Sniff.

Panic over - shows over - nothing to see - nothing here.

I registered and it still wouldn't let me download anything.

This is definately not Large.

sniff!!

Well, I registered and I am downloading the BlitzMax package now Amon mate! mmmm

Dabz

EDIT: Tried the samples and it seems really good! YAY!!!

Definitley LARGE!!!!!!!

Dabz, how mush $$$ ?

From the images on the website, the only particular thing I saw was specular mapping, and it's doable in Blitz3d. I haven't seen any trace of shaders, or anything out of the DX7 field. I wouldn't call this engine DX9 yet as I haven't seen proof of the so said features in demo or picture form. Even that image looks dull on the gallery (link on top).

No offense but I don't think this is what people expect of Direct X 9.0c (Shader Model 3, btw).

- Flexible Entity System
- Flexible Brush System
- Texturing Basic, Multi-texturing, Bumpmapping, Lightmapping, Procedural
- Multiple lights (Directionnal, Point, Spot)
- Meshes files : 3ds, x, md2, b3d,ms3d,...and more into future
- Loading Textures/Images : bmp, jpg, png, dds, tga
- Physique Engine can be integrated (ex : PhysX module)
- Shadow Volume, Shadow Mapping
- Collision Detection, small and easy native physic
- Terrain System (Brute force, Quadtree, Octree, Splatting, LOD,...)
- Special Atmosphere Effects (Billboarding, Particle System, Sky, Fog,...)
- 2D Functions (Sprites, Images, Draw...)
- Occlusion System (Fast Frustum Culling, AABB,...)
- Pixel Shader, Vertex Shader, HLSL
- And more....

only the 2 last lines let me believe it's DX9, but nothing else out of the Blitz3D capabilities.

Dabz, how mush $$$

Well, as far as I can see, its free!

But to make sure, I made a thread on their forums regarding licenses:-

P.S. I'm off to bed, will play with this tomorrow night! ;)

Where have you lot been? This is the engine that Eliza became. There were posts up about it weeks ago

Yeh.

What a bunch of losers - squeaking on about something we already knew about.

"yoko" started it.

I'm going to getchu all.

I still can't download anything. It tells me I don't have permission to download. :/

And because of that I stand my my words that this is definately not a Large.

:/

I'm with _33, here. Is that gallery screenie supposed to impress me? I can't see anything in it that couldn't be done in Blitz3D.

/me shrugs

If you look at the sample that comes with the engine, is uses vertex and pixel shaders to move the grass/plants in a sine-wave sway.

Yes this can be done in B3D (without shaders) but good luck doing it at any decent frame rate with large numbers of polygons... after all that is the whole reason shaders were invented. :D

And dont tell me it makes it incompatible with lower end cards either, because that perticular shader is 1.1, which is supported by a gforce mx440.

So quit ya sidelining and try the thing out!! :D

And dont tell me it makes it incompatible with lower end cards either, because that perticular shader is 1.1, which is supported by a gforce mx440.

Yes and no. A Geforce MX440 will run it, but it doesn't have hardware vertex shader support, it has software shader support only, so it's doing it just like Blitz3D is. And as you put it yourself "good luck doing it at any decent frame rate with large numbers of polygons."

I still can't download anything. It tells me I don't have permission to download.

I got that (for the BMax package) before registering, then again after I clicked the email link to confirm. So I logged into the site manually and I was then able to download.

Do you have JavaScript and cookies turned on? I don't by default, but I gave this site permission on both - dunno if that matters.

After downloading, I gave the samples a look. They seem decent enough, though I haven't really dug in yet.

And dont tell me it makes it incompatible with lower end cards either, because that perticular shader is 1.1, which is supported by a gforce mx440.

PS 1.1 is IMO not hardware supported in Geforce 4 MX440, and all the other Geforce MX series such as MX, MX200, MX400 or MX4000. Only a full featured Geforce 2 GTS, 3 Ti or 4 Ti has (I believe) PS 1.1, but the MX series are the cut down versions of these cards and do not include shaders.

Now PS 1.1 is Direct X 8.0, not Direct X 9.0c. Pixel Shader 1.4 is Direct X 8.1 and was intended for the newer ATI Radeon 8500 series. Direct X 9.0 and 9.0b are Shader Model 2 (SM2) series which mostly features all the capabilities of the ATI Radeon 9700, and some Nvidia cards of the FX 5x00 series such as the 5900, 5700 or the 5600. Direct X 9.0c introduced Shader Model 3 which came with the Nvidia 6x00 series cards, like the 6800, 6600 and 6300 series. ATI followed suit with the X1x00 series such as the X1300, X1600, X19x0 series.

Anyhow, those images are not convincing to me. I've seen better stuff comming out of the Ogre 3D engine ;), which is (also?) free BTW.

which is Also free BTW

Also free? I'll take your word for it.

Its working just fine with PB and its very fast..I never saw so simple shadow setup, Md2, B3D...very very nice..shaders working just fine..

I've had a quick scan though this morning (I was knackered last night) and am pleased to see a PhysX Wrapper in there too, very nice! :)

Dabz

I want a fully working, fully featured, version for Blitz 3D.

Blitz3D deserves DX9 as Blitz3D has been waiting longer than BMax.

in blitz3d not work!!

It works fine in BMax and Blide.
