Another article on Nintendo's success with the Wii. I'd lay a bet that MS will have a Wii like controller for the 360 by Christmas - but I always lose bets...

Depends on how strong Ninty's patents are, I guess. :P
Èven if Microsoft had a Wii-like controller by christmas, they'd still need a bunch of games that support it. The Wii has been out for over 6 months, it already has a Wii-like controller, and while there are quite a few games that use the Wii controller, I think most people are still waiting for that one game that will ultimately eliminate the "gimmick" that some people (who haven't played Ravin' Rabbids) label it with.
Heh, good to see someone else realizes how great that game is!
Raving Rabbids is still one of the best games for the Wii :)
Anyhow, the point of the Wii having this peripheral by default is that every game supports it.
For example, when you develop a game, do you care about adding force feedback keyboard support? I doubt it.
If every keyboard out there was a force feedback keyboard, though, you probably would!
The Wii, a brilliant product for gamers. I only just got a gamecube about a year ago, and to celebrate the end of my first year doing part time college treated myself to a 2nd hand x-box (the original).
looking forward to getting a Wii, in about a years time maybe, to celebrate finsihing my HNC. For the time being I'll get by with my X-box, Gamecube & PS2.... (:-)
I would love to have a wii controller on PC (without having to hack the orignal wii), for an affordable price.
No matter if there are no games... I myself would make one just for the fun of it ;)
Well, I thought that the PS3 controller had some Wii-like features with the Sixaxis, tho. However, I'm quite sure that there will even be some PC controllers that use that technology. I mean, an optical mouse does it, but I'd much rather have that Wiimote feel to any PC game.
Nintendo cant copyright the idea behind the wii controller as theres lots of prior art; they can just copyright their design.

You don't have to hack anything. It's AFAIK a bluetooth device, just get a bluetooth dongle, and appropriate drivers.

There is an article on codeplex about implenting the Wii controller on the PC (it is for dotnet). www.codeplex.com
Yes, I know about all tutorials to use Wii controller with bluetooth - but what I mean by "without hacking", is an out of the box solution, where people with absolutly no computer knowledge would be able to install it and use it.
Having to purchase an Wii controller + a compatible bluetooth adapter (not all models work) + finding and installing the driver is too complicated for most of the people (not to mention the cost of it...)
Well, that's nice that the Wiimote can be hooked up to the PC via Bluetooth. However, if you were to design a Blitz game around one of those, would it come out to about the same as programming around a mouse at all?
Sod all that faffing about - just buy a Wii. :)
I know... I have a Wii for the better part of a month, almost a month and a half now. However, to grab a Bluetooth sensor and design games around the Wiimote is where it's at. I mean, I can design around a keyboard and mouse, and occasionally an X360 controller, but how different would Wiimote programming in Blitz differ from all that?
