Knowing that the PSP can be great at homebrew and emulation, it makes me wonder, what type of games can I port into a PSP? As far as homemade/self-made games from Blitz3D and BMax and such, since a few of them are .EXEs already, I'm sort of wondering how easy it would be to recreate these games to port onto a Memory Stick Duo and be able to play some of my creations on the road?
So it's said that the PSP makes a great emulator..
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/So it's said that the PSP makes a great emulator.. Im not sure what you mean ?.. you cant run your Blitz apps on a PSP...
Sure... Im guessing by now someone has ported a PC emulator to it but if there is its gonna be emulating an old 8086 with no soundcard and CGA graphics.. possibly EGA and speedwise equivalent to a slooow CPU.. probably something like 16Mhz.
So.. you'd have get hold of the dev tools for the PSP and rewrite your games in C/C++.

Amiga games.
It emulates a 500 ok, so Any Blitz 2.1 apps you have.....

Youcan get DOSBox for PSP freely, which can run some nice titles of the DOS age (APOGEE/IDSoftware...etc).
As far as emulation go, in terms of speed, the PSP can only do consoles at an acceptable framerate...
I've seen Win98 on PSP before, but it was so goddamned slow.....so in terms of PC exe's, I doubt it'll happen.
(emulation of DX/OpenGL can't be easy)
I've been waiting for a new exploit that makes updating to a custom firmware more accessible, with none of the downgrading crap necessary. I like homebrew, but I like playing my new games more.
(mainly used my PSP as an NES/SNES device before some good PSP titles started raining)

Sweet, there were some apps I wrote in DJGPP way back in the day, if even I can salvage some of those, I'd love to port those into PSP. However, I'm with you on DOSBox, just better hope that there's a good tutorial on how to port that in.
A place to download PSP Port of DOSBox, maybe more to google...
Actually.. there's almost no modifications on the DOS program part, write a batch or command set then PSP can run your DOS program like native.
Something to notice i there's no mouse support for PSP, joysticke seems not but either... :P, but it's possible to tweak some killer titles like RAPTOR/WACKY WHEELS to run(hint)..

I heard that something like Duke 3D or Quake would be awesome on the PSP, since that's mainly all keyboard controlled, mouse support could be added, but not as necessary as today's FPSes.
Doom & Quake (part of Quake2 also iirc) are already ported to PSP, unsure about Duke3d though.
Quake II just got the port to PSP recently.
You need to visit http://dark-alex.org.
Or at least you should have been there quite some time ago ;] Hopefully you havn't updated past 3.03 official yet...

I had an evoX modified Xbox that could emulate snes, nes, pcengine, dos, genesis/megadrive, neogeo, gameboy, amiga, spectrum, c64, scumm(lucas games) and loads of others.
All you needed was the roms or snapshots and you could fit 1000s of them on the normal xbox hdd. For the computer emus you needed to modify a usb keyboard for use with the xbox's holes (which are actually bastardised usb ports)
Ive herd that there are similar projects for the PS but not seen any myself.

It has Bochs- takes ages to boot win95 but it does it!
Nes,Snes,Genesis,Amiga, even PS1.... emulated very well indeed! N64 is getting pretty close now- it usually works just slowly. :)
the PS1 emulator is built into the PSP *but* you have to modify the firmware in order to use your own Playstation CDs... (I have a crapload of my own CDs so I don't fancy buying off the PS network...) You'll need custrom firmware 3.xxOE installed (which might involve you downgrading your PSP which can be risky, then upgrading it to the new OE firmware...)
The custom firmware comes with PC software to convert your playstation ISO images to Eboots that run on the PSP- so grab yourself EPSXE and the PSX ISO creator and get going! :D

Yeah, sounds cool. I may try downgrading my firmware once and get myself emulating some old platforms once I get my USB kit for the PSP, and I got that heading on its way.
Now that you mention console emulators, makes me wonder... Are any of the old home computers able to be emulated on the PSP, such as the Commodore 64, Amiga, Apple II, TI-99/4A, etc..., those types of platforms? I mean, I know that you really can't program any games on the PSP itself in those platforms, since you don't have a keyboard, but you can, however, have some ROMs from the old computers, and control those rather easy, can't ya?

I believe there's a PSP port of UAE. Not sure of the others.
