chips are £1 at my local chippy.
Therefore, graphics cards are not 'cheap as chips'.
Cheap is quite a 'relative' concept...£ 245 converted to € +VAT yep! My little geforce 6600gt will be here for looong time....
Cheap as gold chips..... 245 quid is about 200 quid more than I'd ever spend on a graphics card.

perhaps you should calculate up that price with the 50% higher energy consumption of the HD 2900XT as well ...

nVidia wanted £500 for the 8800? That's crazy - IIRC the 8800 GTX was sold for around $600 - $650 here in America (~300 - 325 pounds).
If I had that kind of cash going spare, I wouldn't be spending it on a GFX card. Wine, woman and song spring to mind. :P
I'm starting to wonder if I'm the only Blitzer with a 6 figure bank balance.
Numbers after the decimal point don't count.
I expect its because ATI had about 6-8months of delays launching the card, and have almost missed a generation of Nvidia tech. The next geforce card will probably be announced in the next couple of months, and released soon after.
So ATI need to make the most of what they have to offer now, whilst they are still competitive.
