My Wii cherry just got popped.
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/My Wii cherry just got popped.
I had a go on my mates wii last night. First time ive seen one in the flesh and played with it.
OMG! those controls, WTF! talk about raising the bar!!
sod the ps3 and bill's box, Im getting one of these!!! - Even if the GFX are a little rough.
PS: Zelda is wicked, esp. the fishing... and that wierd wario game, talk about a party classic :)
Friend of mine just got his. He was no. 27 on the Woolworths list but they called the entire list and he was the first to pick up the phone so he got it first! He loves it.
Why are Wiis still so hard to get hold of?!?! :/
> Why are Wiis still so hard to get hold of?!?!
Nintendo underestimated what the demand would be.
i guess its because it ROCKS!
Put it this way, we had 6 semi drunk (and 'other') people at my friends house, two broken lamps (one thanks to 'golf' and the other because of a forgotten safety strap while 'boxing'), one injury (she got in the way) and a lot of FUN.
What more do you want from a console :)
lol. Now that sounds like a party! :P
http://www.wiipreorder.co.uk/ if anyones having trouble getting one.
Heh - that just tells me everyone has run out of stock. :)
Limiting demand is always a good way. People want stuff more if it's unavailable or hard to get :-)
I'm getting a Wii also. It's for my son...

Wii, the train set of the 21st Century.

Give yourself a month or so....the excitement wears off quick.
I disagree. I got my Wii on day one and I still play it all of the time. I think it`s great!
It`s a refreshing change to have the fun put back in games.
Jason.
Same here.
I only don't play my wii so much because I already exhausted all the good GC games.. I hope the Wii doesn't suffer the same lack of games as the GC did....
I had a blast with Twilight Princess.. I should really go back.. I also need to finish off Paper Mario.. I've just been on this Diablo 2 kick lately.
There are about 4 or 5 games slated for release that I'm interested in. So far, most of the games I've played and enjoyed were pretty short... Also.. I have no friends. Whenever friends come over, we always play. And it rocks.
Well, having a Wii and an X360, I can't complain. Of course, I have a PS2 as well, but that's all last gen. The PS3 just hardly has any third-party exclusives left, Microsoft stole them all. That leads to mind, will Nintendo finally get their third-party support back that they lost from the GameCube days, due to the popularity of the Wii console?
Personally I find the Wii is great for someone else to have so you can go round every so often and have a play on it, I know 2 people with Wiis and they both say the novelty of whooshing the controller around has totally worn off, but it's a laugh when some friends come round.
So basically, crap on it's own, you still need friends!
That still brings to mind the question, would this gain attention from other developers and/or publishers?
I found the controller response to floaty, it's like having severe mouse lag on an underpowered puter with too much AA on.

Lol :)

I hope it does, as currently all the 3rd-partys are putting near zero effort into making a decent title for the Wii that isn't a port from a PS2, or a watered-down next-gen edition.
(aside from a couple specific titles)
it's like having severe mouse lag on an underpowered puter with too much AA on.
I found it depended on the game, some of them are just spot-on (as fast as the cursor is on the Wii/Home menu), and others just lag behind, which I don't know is due to shoddy coding, a low frame-rate, or a combination of the two....
Haven't really played my much recently, mainly due to the fact I can't afford any new titles (although I do want Super Paper Mario badly), it's just been Virtual Console titles the last couple months.
I have a wii and just played Super Paper Mario Whooo!!!
a low frame-rate
Souldnt every Wii game have the same frame rate?
While I don't play my Wii that much it is still the system that I am most excited to play new games on. When a new game comes out for the Wii (from nintendo mostly) it really is "new". On the other hand, when I pick up one for my 360 it's a new rendition of what I've already played.
I must say though.. I have played Gears Of War far more than any of my Wii games. Zelda had me going for a while.. but since they made all the side quest stuff mandatory between dungeons (what a week way of expanding the length of a game!) I gave up and haven't played it in three months.
Also, Super Paper Mario.. talk about a game that loses its charm! The first half of that game is soooo good. But then, it quickly falls apart and loses it's appeal. I think I might go back and play the first half again just for fun.
Any who, I am far more excited for Super Mario Galaxy than any other game (Including MGS4, which is crazy if you know me personally!). I'm glad I bought my Wii. It has great potential that sooner or later will be tapped.
Hmm, makes me wonder if programming around the Wiimote could be about as easy as programming a mouse?
Souldnt every Wii game have the same frame rate?
Not every developer is competent enough to code an engine that utilizes the Wii hardcore so it can keep a smooth 60fps, let alone even 30fps....
(too many developers are either rushing their projects due to due dates {understandable}, or are setting their expectancies too high...)

I know linux has been known to talk to it:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=ALqduQfm09c I think it just works like a mouse -at least the 'infra red field' part of it :)
Im sure the gyro controls would be more of a challenge (a big fat mission of one)
