Best US retail hardware stores?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Best US retail hardware stores?

I'll be leaving the UK soon and heading off to Florida for a much needed family holiday. I'd like to take advantage of the current £ to $ exchange rate, and I'm looking to buy a Wacom Intuos3 6x11 tablet whilst I'm over there.

Can anyone point me to the best/cheapest computer hardware store(s) in florida? We're stopping at Lake Buenavista. I see there are a few Apple centres somewhere around there, but I'm hoping to get one as cheaply as possible.

Thanks

You know that customs can sting you for duty on the way back, right? Wouldn't carry it in hand luggage if I were you. ;)

Also, keep in mind that import duties are typically the same as salestax (17.5% in the UK?) and IIRC they are levied over the going rate of the product in the country you are importing it to, regardless of what you actually paid for the thing abroad.

I'm expecting to have to pay duty, as the Intuos is still much cheaper than over here. If I get away with not pay duty, all the better.

I've never been stung for duty on previous holidays abroad, although this is my first trip the the US. MY old man bought a digital camera back with him from his trip to Florida. Saved himself over 50% of the UK price!

I've imported from Hong Kong and had to pay duty before and this was not the case.

Don't live in the US, but would keep away from CompUSA if I were you.

Most of the CompUSA complaints mentioned apply to every computer store here in the states. At least Best Buy has phased out the rebate garbage.

As for the pimply faced sales person trying to get me to purchase the service plan, Personally I consider it part of the fun to tell him no, ratcheting up the anger level with each iteration (the most times I've ever had them ask was 5 times back when Silo was still around)

I would. Airline workers steal expensive looking stuff.

Who's to say whether you bought it in the USA, or just brought it along with you on the trip. Not that I'd condone such a thing!
