Got any free Galaxy/Space pictures?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Got any free Galaxy/Space pictures?

Anyone got any nice galaxy/space pictures that they've made that they'd be willing to let me use for free as a background for my logo? I'd really appreciate it.

I could get some great ones from NASA which are free for personal use but I'm not sure that they are free for commercial use (anyone know differently?).

Thanks! :-)

Ah yes I read that before, cool. That means I can keep the picture I'm using, yay!

nawi: ooooh

so, did NASA photographed an alien or what? :-)

this video is pretty awesome:

You could download Universe Image Creator and see if the shareware disabled version lets you create what you want.

looks awesome.

Well, you could make a TerraGen screenshot that puts you on an alien planet, I've done that before.

Here's my space picture:

.

This is quite a big space. A wide open one, in fact.

@Ricky LOL (;-)

Going through that archive link from nawi, reminds me that the universe is a really beautiful place! :)

Sorry for being a bit *deep*, but it is!

I agree, it's incredible!

Sometimes these NASA photos bother me. Remember. 99.9% of these are Black and White, colored by artists based on how they should look, or more often, specificly to highlight things of interest and in no way related to what these things ACTUALLY look like.

They rarely mention this fact, as well. As a result, people will marvel at quite a few photos, say something like "Look at the miracles of our own universe" and not only miss-attribute these beautiful images to nature or god, but gain a completely off sense of what our universe actually looks like.

Darn, Sonicfactory. I was sitting there, waiting for your picture to load for about a minute!

Dampe: It's not just the colours. I have an 11472x6429 (huge) image here from Hubble of a nearby galaxy, and even without colour it would be incredible thanks to the ridiculously huge size of the thing. The symmetry and the round glow just looks awesome. (You can just search the web for something like "hubble galaxy image" to find a ton of them).
Then the pictures with the actual vehicles in them are pretty neat as well. They aren't fantastically attractive, but again the scale of it all and the reminder of the great technology that is used to take the picture is quite exciting!

Oh, and in this day and age the ones we are presented with (the ones that look pretty) are not 99% black and white. For 'big' shots they will get 3 different images with filters applied, then edit them together to get three colours. Some pictures just miraculously do look nice.
Not disagreeing, of course. The Mars ones particularly have a sad tendency to be given extra red :(

Yeah mars ones are faked up a bit. But anyway it's the overall thing which is amazing especiall when you think of the size.
