OSAKit Pro V3 (new features sample)

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/OSAKit Pro V3 (new features sample)

http://www.osakit.com/osakitpro.html

OSAKit is a multi-browser (IE, Firefox, Opera, SeaMonkey...) solution to turn your desktop game into a web game without the need for Flash, Java or even change your source code in any way unless you want to use the new advanced features like communicating with the browser!

for more info please visit http://www.osakit.com

I was going to buy it, and kept waiting only because I don't plan to use it in the immediate future... but jeez, I just noticed the price go up from the 129.99$USD to 199.99$USD for the "Unlimited games/Single site" license. Adding 70.00$USD to the price tag is pretty steep.

Hey, that test app is working 100% on my machine.

Doiron : I had to do that for the new feature as it took time and effort, also it is free for all current customers so you should have bought it :) anyway I do not mind make you a discount to get it with the old price... that will be valid to the end of this month only!

Toby : Great to hear that.. thanks

One thing to mention:

1- VB runtimes are already preinstalled on anything newer than Windows 98 first edition.

Actually Win95/98/98SE/2000 doesn't include it, VB6 Runtimes are include in WinME/XP/Vista.

And, it doesn't work on my Opera, with default configuration, installed the player and doesn't help.

yoko : any error message you get?!

I have tried the demos with Opera 9.2, Firefox 1.5 and Internet Explorer 6: while everything worked fine on IE, it refuses to show anything in Firefox and Opera.

In the tests I used WinXP SP2 (I'll try with Vista Ultimate as soon as I have time to assemble my new pc). I installed the OsaKit Pro Player from the following link: http://www.osakit.com/downloads/OSAKitProPlayer.exe.

anyway I do not mind make you a discount to get it with the old price... that will be valid to the end of this month only!

It looks like we have a deal, if I make it to work with Opera and Firefox. :)

Doiron : Any error messege you get?! With Opera if you see a blank page then you might need to click on it to activate it! Also could you please try to install FireFox v2 and let me know how's it going because all works fine here and I test OSAKit on many machines and all is good!

Thanks Doiron and everyone in advance for your help :)

No error was shown, both with Opera and Firefox.

I was able to run the Osa Kit with Opera, though it retains some compatibility problems.

First of all, it looks like it recognizes Osa Kit as an unwanted popup, since I had to set "Quick Preferences" to "Open al pop-ups" (it was set, as usual, on "Block unwanted pop-ups"). Then I have to click on the "...then 2-Click HERE" link.

Other than that it has issues with the scrollbar, since when running the plugin I can't scroll the page either by using the mousewheel or by dragging the scrollbar itself.

Finally, it will only load the embedded program (badly centered) without showing the webpage unless I click on the embedded program itself in order to activate it.

Thanks dorion for your feedback... I will try to simulate your Opera settings and see what I can do :)

Feel free to contact me if you need system specific info in order to replicate the problem. :)

So where can we get the discount that is only valid for a few days from now? Because i kinda went like "eh? O_O" too. I was sorta considering to buy it...
I've been monitoring progress, i think it is much promissing. I still have a copy of the old one somewhere.

But anyway, what i always wondered is: can you "tune" the activeX and rebrand it? because i do not want to advertise AcientSoft really :-) It can be very confusing for the end-user and they can assumed it to be "spyware" or "adware". If people visit www.goldstarpcgames.com/?r=blitzbasic and get an installer of "AcientSoft" or something... they may think i want to spyware their PC and they can think all i say on my website is a big lie, and they go warn others (in worse case). And my business is dead. (no offence) But after all you're not Adobe with its FlashPlayer, that is well know and trusted.

Also, can it load at the inital size of the game on startup? Because, as i have seen, it suddenly resizes from about 300x100 to 640x480 or whatever. That could conflict with the design of a website.

Also, i think the increase to $199 is a very bad idea, even after all effords. The more efford you put in it does not meen you can lift the price all the way up. You still have to look at the product as it is, what it offers, etc.. (but ofcorse that is totaly up to you to decide.)
There are a lot of other things to buy for $199,- that have way more purpose :) Also i keep in mind all the "licence" forms your having.. it doesnt really convince me to buy it. It actualy scares me off. Like "oboy, here is another wanne be microsoft." Just sharing my thoughts.

[edit]
What i could fo for $199 is buy BlitzMax, Greyaliens Game Framework, A good Particle engine and a Shadow system, and buy some good food, watch a movie and have a good time with all that... or buy an activeX that offers my customers to play online while they can download a demo anyway.

[edit2]
Sorry i keep going on, but i just had another question while reading your questions.

Are you an Indie Game Developer looking to make more money?

I say: Yes
but, can you explain to me how this is going to help me with that (taking all the licencing in mind)?
i meen, if it would bring me so much sales i would do it, but i don't see how this is going to help me make more sales.

One last, i think Multi Browser support is the least it should have.
It comes to me like "Drive a car! (Now has 4 wheels!)"

Last, while a game is loaded you cannot scroll. (at least i can't, that is in IE7. i hope its fixable.)

Im sharing not to be negative about it, maybe you pick a few things up. I dunno how other people think about it tough. Maybe its just me.

But the games are nice man (like Pharao's Curse) no kidding, its cool :-)

Have you ever dreamed of bringing your game or application online?
Have you ever considered learning Flash or Java to make it happen?
Or even hired a Flash or Java developer to port it for you?
Want to save yourself the time, money and effort of learning another language?
Do you want an easy and fast solution to run your game in the browser window?
Did you exhaust yourself searching shareware promotions and marketing methods?
Do you want to increase your sales?
Do you want an easy way for your customers to run your game without installation problems?
Are you an Indie Game Developer looking to make more money?

Are you tired of reading all of these questions?

Does this OSA Kit run a game I wrote for Windows in a browser running under Linux or some other OS?

Believe me $199 is a steal compared to the extortionate prices of similar products. This price gives you the right to have unlimited games on your site. People wouldnt need to download and install your game they could just play it in the browser.

If you think $199 is expensive then go for the standard version or the special version. If you can't afford that then you're going to have problems anyway when it comes to creating buying media, music ect for your game.

Go look for something called igloader and check out its prices and then tell me which solution is better. Both do the same thing ie deliver your game to be played online and OSAKit doesnt come with all the bloat.

Are you tired of reading all of these questions?

I can tell that you're young but you need to learn to post only when it's relevent.

Dorion : Thanks I will email you!

Amon : Thank you very much

So where can we get the discount that is only valid for a few days from now?

Use this code when ordering : Blitzers

can you "tune" the activeX and rebrand it?

It is up to you or in other words use/get your own certificate :)

can it load at the inital size of the game on startup?

Sure it can :)

i think the increase to $199 is a very bad idea, even after all effords

What Amon said... beside get the benefit of the discount code above ;)

or buy an activeX that offers my customers to play online while they can download a demo anyway.

It is up to you to decide if it is of a good use for you or not!

if it would bring me so much sales i would do it, but i don't see how this is going to help me make more sales.

Do not buy it!

ast, while a game is loaded you cannot scroll. (at least i can't, that is in IE7. i hope its fixable.)

It is fixed and should be updated/uploaded soon

Thanks for that.

TaskMaster : Indirectly yes for Linux, you can use CrossOver Office to "emulate" the browser plugin!

But anyway, can i get a coupon? thanks!

LeeMing : I did answer and offered a coupon above... it seems you did not notice it :)

Sphinx, that answers my question with a resounding No...

If I wanted something that ran in a browser, why would I not just write it as a flash app? Then it would be cross browser and cross OS.

BlitzMax can end up with some pretty large files, expecting your users to download them every time they play instead of just once is kinda silly.

I guess there could be uses for your product, but it is certainly a niche market.

TaskMaster : I think you answered it for yourself... how long will it take you to write your game in Flash? how much money? will you have the time to learn Flash? or even hire someone to port it for you?

My solution is like write it in the language you use and like and do not worry about porting it to be played online!

If Flash is going to help you better market your product then OSAKit will do it even if less it is still worth it :)

"Are you an Indie Game Developer looking to make more money?"

than a few posts later you go
Do not buy it!

Why not? i meen, first you go ask questions suggesting you have the solution, and then you advice me not to buy it :-P
Im confused. If the tool doesnt do that, than why advertise it in the form of a question.
Otherwise you can list in the same row "You always wanted to eat pizza?".

Just wondering...

Why not?

Because you just told him you couldn't see how it would make you any sales. He even quoted each piece of what you said so that you could see why and what he was replying to.

I have Flash 8 and know how to program in flash, that is not the point. OSA is not offering the most important reason someone would program in Flash, cross platform capabilities.

What I am saying is, all OSA is doing is allowing the game to play in the browser, for I have no idea why. It doesn't make it cross platform and the game already runs natively, so what would be the point of running it in a browser, if it can only be played on the platform in question just like the native application already could.

With Blitz, I could make my game all wrapped into an exe with all files included, the user would click a link to it and they could choose "Run From Here" or what ever the popup is and it would run.

Other than making it just one simple step easier, what does OSA offer? A program doesn't have to use an installer or have files on the users hard disk. In fact, the files could be pulled from a web site at runtime easily with Blitz...

Because you just told him you couldn't see how it would make you any sales. He even quoted each piece of what you said so that you could see why and what he was replying to.

Yes, i noticed, but that specific part he awnsered with "don't buy it" that is no explanation. So i still not understand why he said that.

I must have overlooked it at his wesite, but i just found something that may explain it:

1. Making it easy and fuss free for your customer to play your game.

2. Customers prefer the 'play online' to 'download/install/play' methods, It's only one click away!

3. It's highly possible that the customer will order your game after they have played.

Then, my last question is..does this tool work on all win32 exe or just blitz games?

Then, my last question is..does this tool work on all win32 exe or just blitz games?

Yes...Virtually any Win32 exe will work!

'Do not buy it' was not the most intelligent reply but I wanted to say it is up to you to decide!

Actually the "bloat" is more commonly known as "Security" and "Features", both of which Sphinx is desperately trying to get into his product. By the way, since when does "Cheaper" mean "better"? Do some research on the retro64Loader and see what happens when you can't secure the client.

All i can find is that this loades is marked as Trojan Horse. How come?

Probably the same reason as this:-

Spinx should get onto the anti-virus developer and state it isnt a trojan.

Yes, I am working on on getting OSAkit more Security right now and it will :)
Features is getting better by time and I will not stop as long as more ideas are coming my way ;)

Actually the "Cheaper" is more commonly known as "More affordable" and "Getting the job done", both of which Indiepath is desperately trying to convince people how great and worthy his igloader is regardless of the price and insisting to hijack every thread of mine to self promote his plugin like http://forums.indiegamer.com/showpost.php?p=116727&postcount=5 and http://forums.indiegamer.com/showthread.php?t=10700

Regarding Retro64Loader, I think Mike does not sell his Loader! he never did, how can you tell it is cheap? He mentioned to me that it was given for free to miniclip.com to get his games online!

Indiepath : it is your right to defend your product but please do not judge mine and let people do!

Dbaz : thanks for the advice

Back to the technical aspects... I'm more than willing to buy OsaKit, however I want to be sure that most users will be able to use it (since it already requires the VB runtimes, I wouldn't want to narrow the audience further :) ).

When launching one of the demos with either Firefox 1.5 or Firefox 2.0.0.3 the following window is shown: Unknown Plugin

By clicking on "manual install" I'm then redirected to the following address (which I suggest you to hide with an empty index.html page): Neptune download page

Doiron : I had to do that for the new feature as it took time and effort,

Anyway, regarding your first post: adding features will always lead to a larger userbase, thus giving more sales. If the price should reflect the time and money invested, buying a movie would cost millions of dollars (it's an old debate which pops up from time to time, though).

I can understand a price increase, but I still think that adding 70$ to the original 130$ price tag is too much for a necessary maintenance update (vista compatibility), VB/JS scripting and streaming downloads. Personally, I would prefer to invest money on stable support for all major browsers (maybe it's just bad luck, but out of three browsers only IE worked as expected and I have no compatibility problems whatsoever with other web based softwares).

Another suggestion: could you add an install which includes VB runtimes, so that the user doesn't have to install them separately?

Dorion : I emailed you
