bmax 3d????

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/bmax 3d????

I know that a lot of user want the official 3D module FIRST: The Tools&Editors of last Worklogs are the last thing that we all want!
The Tools have a low priority... Let us, Blitz3D/Blitzmax user, make Editor & tools directly using BlitzMax and the Official 3D module, like we have done for Blitz3D (see Gile[s] and co).

Of course, if you want you can also develop some official tools for the official 3D editor, and we will be glad to get it ... but "THEN"!!
Release the plain Officiale 3D module FIRST, please!!

Blitz3D users only want a new Blitz3D, upgraded with modern standards (cool shaders, shadows, physics and postrenderfilter are enought).

As soon possibile.. 'couse are raising out a lot of alternatives like Vicious or Visual3D.net that working on a 'Visual editor' philosophy, with limitated script possibility than the old dear Blitz3D:
we don't want something like it from BlitzMax3D!

PLEASE Mark, answers! we still really happy to see even only a closed "tech demo" .. or screenshots & videos of this W.I.P Offical 3D module! we are tired do read only words on words... can you understand us?

thanks!

With all due respect, You != We.

Ooh another week, another notch on the the BlitzMax3DThread-o-meter.

My opinion is this -

I'd like to see both a 3d engine and some very basic 'base tools' (e.g. model exporters, scene editors) written by BRL that can be extended or changed by users as required. This would give it a head start.

As someone mentioned before, Blitz3D only really took off once people had developed the tools necessary to actually create and plug in content to the engine. By this I mean tools and middleware necessary to create .b3d files
- Gile[s]
- Alex's 3dsmax exporter
- Sprite Candy / Particle Candy
- Terrain editors etc.

Blitz3D users only want a new Blitz3D, upgraded with modern standards (cool shaders, shadows, physics and postrenderfilter are enought).
I stopped wanting that as soon as I realized that Blitz3D's design was not the be-all end-all, and that there can indeed be a superior engine with a very different set of functions.

That was quick

*Looks in, then promptly goes back to work*

Off with mongia's head!

ugh

Hmmm... there's similar post every week or so...

I'm not jumping in it.

hahahahahaahahaha

If people put as much effort into writing games as they did bleating on and on and on about Max3D, we'd all be rich.

I don't want Max3D any more. TBH I'm sick of hearing about the damn thing.

It's time for a sticky thread called: "Everything about Max3d"

It's time for a sticky thread called: "Everything about Max3d"

And that thread would contain a single, empty post, and be locked.

As long as that empty post is complete, otherwise ppl keep making posts .. ^_^

Maybe it's time to make new forum (probably between "BlitzMax beginners area" and "BlitzMax programming") called "Max3D. Pleeease.". It will be full of treads. :)

The regulars seem quick to mock the fact that there are a lot of posts about Max3D.

Perhaps that is because there is demand for the product as originally envisioned.

More significant to me is the lack of posts requesting the proposed 3D editor tools.

Maybe that's something that BRL might want to pay attention to?

Can we have a new forum called "Max3D dump bin" where every post about max3d is put so most of us can avoid seeing these same old max3d threads popup every few days.

Yes, I know I could avoid clicking on them but it really does begin to get on your nerves when you look at the new posts and see yet another max3d based thread.

Shove em all in one place. That way all the people who are going to do nothing more than a spinning cube, followed by how can I do a Quake 10 clone, can pointlessly debate on what it should or shouldn't be.

@mongia2
For the love of GOD man, we got our update (we being everyone). Give it up already... No one cares anymore, and those that do simply live in denial.

The regulars seem quick to mock the fact that there are a lot of posts about Max3D.

Because we all know that we might as well shout into the wind, or pee on an electric fence...

Maybe that's something that BRL might want to pay attention to?

Your logic has no place here ;-P

In all seriousness though, the official 3d side of Blitzmax is taking a new turn as indicated by mark's previous worklog (and the 170+ post thread that followed, thanks GFK). If you don't like it, move on. There are other places that will suite you (I suggest you try Blade3D, that might tickle your fancy a bit). If you want to wait around and see where the wind blows Blitz, then by all means do so... Just don't expect a status update but once every 5-6 months (therein lys my only gripe :-)

@Qube
Spinning a cube around a proper angle and speed with some nice ease in/out isn't this easy...it's art! :O)

I assume i'm included in that, in which case you are utterly wrong. I've been around a VERY long time and I've been finishing 3D games since the Spectrum era, actually. I've lost count of my finished products but i'm well into double digits on finished projects. (I have no idea of how many games and utilities i've finished, but I would hazzard it's nearer tree digits than zero).

I think you have muddled your stereotypes! I'm from the "Want Max3D" stereotype. The "I want to make my first game and it'll be the best MMO ever" is a totally different stereotype, and one i'm not a part of.

@Dark Half: lol, thanks for the heads up on Blade3D - I will look at it.

i see a Blade3D but blitz it fast and i create a free games and application!

i love blitz3d!
i wait for max3d!

mongia

Do you mean expect Max3D ?

I assume i'm included in that, in which case you are utterly wrong

You can assume what you want, but you are incorrect in this case. assumption is the mother of all <snip> ups.

I think you have muddled your stereotypes!

No, not at all. I don't see you continually creating and adding to these max3d posts with the same old drivel. Please do not incorrectly accuse me with your assumptions.

i wait for bmax3d!

Don't hold your breath!

LMAO, you wait buddy, you go ahead and wait. But do me (and the rest of us a favor) and just sit in the corner and wait quietly.

When BRL originally announced BMax3D as "next-gen" I had no idea that they were referring to the next generation of programmers rather than the engine :)

There are a lot of alternatives available right now. Try Gabriels's TrueVision module or MiniB3D if outright speed is not an issue. Ogre,Irrlicht & Native OpenGL are other viable options. Try c# and Managed DirectX - you'll be surprised how easy it is !
Don't get bogged down waiting for something that may not happen. Take this opportunity to expand your mind and learn new things. There is no "magic" solution/tool to create a 3d game (Blitz3D came very close )- just hard work and a lot of artistic talent to create the content. The more "next-gen" the graphics engine - the more work you'll have to put in to create the content.

*lol*

wait in line like the rest of us, nobody likes queue jumpers ;)

Classic :) lol.

So the best solution to 'this problem' is Mark never said/wrote in his worklog he's working on a 3d engine/render/module...no showing images, no saying about syntax language or shaders and openGl/DirectX supports and so on.
Complaing about people asking for more informations is not a great answer. And neither be sarcastic or humoristic. The main damage is not for the user (you offer other solutions...) but for BRL. I'm conviced that 80 people on 100 is waiting for the 3d module and no one else (well I admit I'm waiting for a official support for .ogg streaming - go ahead Vertex!) want other - and future - things.

SLERP is art?

No. I think most of us would welcome reasonable and balanced discussion of Max3D. It's the pointless tantrums about Max3D that are starting to get on our nerves.

Perhaps that is because there is demand for the product as originally envisioned.
There are also a handful of products (most of which are free) that answer this demand. With one exception: They aren't written by Mark. Now to people with no religious predisposition this wouldn't make any difference, but to these borderline fanatics it does. I'd bet you dollars to dogpoo that if Mark licensed and released any one of the alternative products as "Max3D", you'd all be lining up around the block to buy it - but when it's free and overtly developed by someone else you wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.

Now why do you suppose that is?

More significant to me is the lack of posts requesting the proposed 3D editor tools.
You must not have been here when Blitz3D was just released.

Maybe that's something that BRL might want to pay attention to?
What part of "It is becoming increasingly difficult to develop Max3D without a suitable set of tools to provide the data I need" don't you understand?

So the best solution to 'this problem' is Mark
Yes. It would be better for Mark if he kept the community completely in the dark. Now does anyone still wonder why he doesn't post more often?

I'm waiting for multithreading and delegates, and other types of technology that cannot possibly be provided by a third party. Waiting around for a solution to a perceived problem that is already solved is a waste of time.

Sir Clive Sinclair was once convinced that the future of urban transportation was was a tinfoil shopping trolley with a couple of AA batteries which blew up when you went uphill.

The moral of the story? It's surprisingly easy to convince yourself of things which aren't true if you want to believe badly enough.

It's surprisingly easy to convince yourself of things which aren't true if you want to believe badly enough.
Also, intelligent people are very good at rationalizing things they came to believe for unintelligent reasons.

Yum, badgers on toast!

OOps, nevermind :) (could have sworn someone said something on this post, but I don't see it now)

@FlameDuck
Yes, amongst others...

I'm waiting for multithreading .... that cannot possibly be provided by a third party
Yep

I dont understand the reasons why it (Bmax) isnt thread safe, (something to do with miniWG or GC or something)

It would have to be pre-emtive multithreading though, otherwise, whats the point.

But he was farsighted enough to provide the aforementioned vehicle with pedals, thus utilizing the additional power of human operator on particularly nasty and steep gradients.

Forget about Max3D, it will be never release. There is irrlicht wrapper, it more better then cryes of Mark. ;)

what everyone said :/

Considering this post here :

http://www.blitzbasic.com/Community/posts.php?topic=69742

You'll forgive me if I take your opinions on Irrlicht with a pinch of salt, won't you?

Irrlicht is still pretty young and development has mostly gone into slapping features in with little regard for serious optimization and scene management. Not only that but lack of forward planning and design left the engine without a decent solution for handling the complex geometry and materials of a modern render engine.

Sure it does shaders, but just about any engine with shader support goes about it the same way, and its lower level optimizations tailored to your specific needs that makes one engine faster than another. I personaly don't see it as that big a step up from blitz3D.

It does BSP, ok shadows and shaders, and it has supported .B3D files for a few months allowing easier access for artists to 2 UV channels, so you can actually lightmap, but thats just the tip of the iceberg even with a fixed function material pipeline for older non shader hardware.

The nice thing about irrlicht is that it was designed with simplicity in mind, so you can pick it up quickly, to the extent that it limits your flexibility. Other engines are a bit more rounded and have extra complexity but don't tie you down so much, giving you more freedom to be creative.

PS. I did see that there was talk of a plugin scenemanager solution a lot like Ogre's

It's a pretty cool game that uses Ogre3D as its render engine. it uses the excellent Nimble volumetric cloud system too, developed with the help of Ogre3D's project lead.
