Flash memory madness!

I've won a simple little digital camera. While it isn't a fantastic camera, it will certainly come in very handy since I am otherwise using film. (I will still continue to use film a lot since my Canon AV-1 is fantastic, but smaller digital cameras come in quite handy...)

All is well except for one thing: It is made by Sony.
To the uninitiated, this shouldn't be a bad problem, right? After all, Sony makes a lot of digital cameras and they seem to do okay with them. This one is, indeed, quite decent.
That is, except the memory format ... Of course, it's Sony's horrendously expensive and unpopular Memory Stick Pro Duo format (and Do Not get that confused with Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, Memory Stick Select, etc.)
Normally, one would assume that, since it is a product that 'works out of the box', it would come with a memory card already... right? Incredibly, no! The camera does have 24 MB of built in memory. That is enough for around 7 frames, I suppose in some weird emergency situation.

This is troublesome. Thus, I am thinking of using MicroSD...
I have already found an adaptor for MicroSD to Memory Stick Pro Duo and a $10 1 GB MicroSD card, but there are a few things that I am unsure about. Perhaps someone here has played with these memory formats?

-If I was to instead get a 2GB MicroSD card, do you think the memory stick reader would like it? I'm quite confused about the size limitations for this format, probably thanks to the number of similarly named formats.

-Do you have any first hand experience of the speed hit with this type of arrangement? MicroSD is already rather slow...

-I'm also looking for a way to get this into Compact Flash. CF is a nice format for its speed (while the others are generally very slow) and for its manageable physical form, but it sure would be handy to get a MicroSD card in a CF reader. There are hundreds of MicroSD to SD adaptors, but I can't find any MicroSD or SD to CF adaptors! Have you seen a such thing before?

There's clearly very little about it that you like, so save yourself the trouble, flog it on eBay and get a better one.

Are you sure that adapter you found is MicroSD to Pro Duo and not the other way around?

Just the Pro Duo is friggen tiny (as my PSP unfortunately uses it for obvious reasons) and I can't really see an adapter from one format to it being possible.......

You would be amazed by how small MicroSD is:
15 mm × 11 mm × 0.7 mm (versus Memory Stick Duo: 31.0 mm × 20.0 mm × 1.6 mm - no penny comparison available).

Any smaller and you would need a microscope just to use the thing!

Oh, and I'm happy with the camera. It isn't the ultimate camera for someone used to manual control over everything, but then again it's useful for numerous things (such as those pictures that just aren't perfect enough to spend entire film frames on). It's 7.2 Megapixels, too, which is pretty darn good for entry level. What it doesn't do is stuff that I would probably use my film camera for anyway.

That's probably why you won it and it came without any memory. They were probably trying to get rid of it.

I can't imagine anybody using film cameras any more.

Digital results are so much better.

I just think it's the fact his current film camera is of a high-quality compared to your standard digital.......I got a 2.1 megapixel digital camera here and it ain't too hot for photography purposes.
(grainy image/lack of clarity and all that fun stuff, but then again, it's 8 years old)

And god those Micro SDs are tiny...............a Pro Duo adapter for that would spell fragile to me. ><
