Hit a nice milestone today

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Hit a nice milestone today

Yeah the game screen on my current game is basically done now, woo! The engine totally works and all the fancy little polish bits have been added in, although there may well be a few more by the end. It's nice to reach a point where you can totally play the game and enjoy it and find it addictive! A friend had a go the other day and I had to stop him playing it so we could watch a movie. My kids ask to go on it and smile when I show them the special particle effects :-)

Now I've got to make all the other screens e.g. Loading, Title, Options, Credits, Story, Map, Trophies, Meta Game, Mini Game, End Level, End Game etc. And each one has to be thoroughly polished. It's gonna take a while, but it should be great. Looks like the game may be in an early beta state during mid-late June. Oh and then I've got to localise it in several languages and get it working in Vista and OSX. Wish me luck!

Anyone else got some nice game/engine/demo milestones coming up? It really feels great to hit them, but the best is actually finishing of course. I'm trying to visualise that at the moment, but it seems a long way off...at least I have a clear plan and know where I'm heading and can take it one step at a time.

I have a sort of milestone. I just finished creating a basic 3d person with bones so hopefully I'll have him actually running in a program soon. Will be my first real bit of 3D work.

Is it a match 3 game?

I can't think of any major milestones at the moment but I did recently make the decision to finally explore programming for 3D graphics rather than just 2D. Having been somewhat anti-3D since my computing days began, this is something of a change of attitude and approach. So in terms of my `programming career` or whatever you call it, it's a milestone. It also represents an important broadening of horizons and change of direction in terms of what I'm trying to achieve. I did manage to get some 3D stuff happening on-screen for the first time, which did feel good and was inspiring.

What I think will be a major milestone for me is getting my creative environment to the point where I can start using for productivity rather than having to write more sourcecode.

I am nearing a rather nice milestone for the 2D World Designer. Its finally doing some productive work and compiles / runs the *same* under both Windows and Mac. I added an export feature that allows the maps to be read from a game, not just the designer anymore. (this IS the main point behind the project)

It was gratifying to see it perform the same under both operating systems. MaxGUI proved to be a beast in many different respects, but in the end, I was able to pull off what I wanted with it. The application isn't quite complete, but its functional in the areas it really needs to be.

If you'd care to take a gander http://www.computercoder.org (or click my logo below) and you can see it there. (2D World Designer)

I am hoping this weekend I'll have another beta release, both Mac and Windows this time. Maybe I'll clean up my site a bit too :P

I've neared a milestone in my very small sub project at the moment which is an Authentication system (A highly reusable one which will be droppable it any web app)

All functionality working, got rid of a load of bugs just writing usage examples.

Is it a match 3 game?
No. Otherwise the milestone wouldn't have felt as big, because I wouldn't have had to make the engine from scratch again.

I'll be starting my next game in the coming days. Which is sort of a milestone. :p

I've been busy with a few other things for the last couple of weeks which have finally yielded results. Can't say anything at the moment but its all good. Something I wish I'd done years ago instead of.... pah! I'm saying too much! :)

I hit a milestone yesterday, I was 29! :)

Nealy half way there! ;)

Dabz

Just curious but will your next game be in BMax again Gfx?

Jason.

Happy birthday Dabz.

GfK: now that's mean, way too tantalising.

QS: Yeah, Blitzmax again.

GA: Come on, you know the score. The more you say, the more you get shot down for, right? ;)

Congratz on your milestone grey, I've got milestones dropping like flies at the moment - got some pretty significant ones that'll take some reaching coming up.

Been quite busy with other 'life' things of late, just off to paint a bedroom. Have a good weekend.

GfK: Guess so. I'm contractually bound to not say though...

Blitzplotter: Well good luck with your "painted bedroom" milestone!

Cheers Grey! ;)
