How is the mirror in Blitz3D done?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/How is the mirror in Blitz3D done?

Hi,

i've just seen a screenshot of a Blitz3D screenie with a mirror and as i'm having my own little mirror/reflection/glossy shader now i was thinking about how it's done in Blitz3D. Does anyone know that?

taumel

you do this

global mirror = createmirror()

and that is it. It cannot be rotated btw as it is a fixed plane.

IPete2.

Hmm i was more thinking about how it's done internally. Is this a solution based on RenderToTexture or something else? Is it a performance hit?

it double the amount of triangles in a scene, just renders an additional copy... see what happens if you move objects past the mirror!

Ah okay, thanks!

I don't have Blitz3D, i'm just a poor and *snief* lonesome BlitzMax guy...ahh i better stop here now. :O)

Well, you can always make a good game with BlitzMax, sell 10 copies, and buy Blitz3D :)
