well the title says it all. I'm fed up with my lousy 256Kbit upload and also Wanadoo/Orange saying I can't have faster than 2Mbit when everyone else says I can have 6Mbit based on those postcode searches and line tests.

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Any UK Broadband provider offer > 256K upload? I wouldn`t worry too much about getting faster speeds with Orange, you`re not missing much. I`m supposedly on 6.5mb and most of the time I cannot get above 1mb!

I now have constant disconnections, email not working, cannot connect you name it. This didn`t happen when they were still FreeServe\Wanadoo.

Yeah I never got round to it. Was considering Tiscali and my own wireless router instead of the LiveBox. I set my dad up with Tiscali and it was fine. Or I might even go back to BT gasp!
I'm on Virgin media cable, I get 10meg downstream and 512k upstream. This is due to go up to 20meg down, 768k up in the next week or so.

Not many broadband companies in the UK offer above 256kbit upload. Blueyonder (now Virgin Media) do have higher upload speeds and in general a decent broadband service.

I have 8mb down/448k up, with 20GB of bandwidth and 2GB of webspace).
Ain't cheap though. You need to be on an ADSLMax exchange to get higher than 2Mb - maybe Orange just don't know your exchange was upgraded with most of the rest of them last year?

Before I was with Telewest (Now Virgin) I was with Be Unlimited www.bethere.co.uk.
They were fast and their upload bandwidth was second to none. They offer a Pro Service now which can get you and upto 2.5mb upload for £40. You have to be in a Be Broadband enabled area though.

Where the heck has Orange's broadband availabilty checker gone? Can't find it on their maze of a site, anymore. Couldn't find BT's one, either. :/
I tried an independent checker which reckons I should be able to get 4.5meg - that's news to me as I'm still stuck on 1meg with Orange.
I've never had any connection probs with Orange though, so maybe it's to do with regional issues?!

Finally they get them and tell you that all is well and the problem must be at your end despite the fact that nothing has changed at your end and you were once getting decent speeds.
Still, it offers me some comfort that in the recent Watchdog episode there were lots of Orange customers like me getting shafted. The worrying thing was that many couldn`t get out!

I've heard Orange Customer Services branded as god-awful on many occasions in the last year or so.
Given that I used to work in the call centre they outsource their customer services to (and left because it was crap), I'm not surprised at this.
They also provide customer services for British Gas and O2 (among many others) - both of these I worked for. The entire place is a shambles and they employ anyone - even people who are computer illiterate.

So why am I getting such crappy results?

I simply cannot understand how I have gone from a once steady 4.5mb + to a crappy 0.2mb and Orange won`t give me any explanation as to what may be causing it.
I have had the line checked by BT and that is not the problem, nothing has changed in my system so they must be at fault but they won`t admit it.

Tiscali Max job, currently, I've recently upgraded from the cheapo jobbie, so the line is still a little shakey!

I`m going to change my ISP I think as the cabling has been checked out and is fine. Orange don`t seem to care one way or another if I am happy with the service or not so that says it all really.

Worth noting that Virgin Media are rolling out traffic management across the UK. Couple of areas already covered by this (blackpool, dundee i think).
If you exceed a set download limit between 4pm and midnight (varies in size according to your package) your connection speed is throttled to around 250k for 4 hours.
Stuffs you for playing some online games, etc although technically speaking the connection is still 'unlimited'.
