Need a new mouse!

My left mouse button has gone on my intellimouse - annoyingly since it's not that old. (Can't even remember where I got it so I can't take it back) Can someone recommend me a good mouse - is Logitech worth going for, or stick with MS? My previous MS one was much nicer than my current one - hate the spongy wheel. I don't want to go for a Mac Mighty Mouse - the scroll dot goes in no time at all, they're far too expensive and I like having millions of buttons. I want to use it for gaming (and I tend to use the side buttons, wheel button and wheel in gaming) but I'd also like to go for wireless if it's not too expensive and isn't rubbish for games... maybe about the £40 mark? Any recommendations?

Conclusion
This was a very difficult round-up to complete because of the many differences, however, I believe we found a testing approach that worked very well. We had 2 mice from every major manufacturer of mice in the gaming industry. To recap these were each category’s standings and the conclusion I drew from each.

Optical

1. Razer Diamondback with a 4.3 out of 5
2. Logitech MX518 with a 3.75 out of 5
3. Saitek Gaming Mouse with a 3.25 out of 5
4. Microsoft Comfort 3000 with a 2.75 out of 5


The Razer Diamondback was our winner by over half a point and for good reason. The Diamonback not only has great aesthetic quality, but provides performance and precision consistently. The others have some minor improvement that are necessary for competition in the market. Good luck to you three in the future.

The Logitech G5 is quite simply an amazing mouse with phenomenal aesthetics, features, and precision. A job well done to the Logitech team in their design of this mouse. Its only flaw was the lack of a fifth button which will hopefully be seen in their next gaming mouse as it was in previous Logitech mice. To the rest of our contenders, we hope to see the improvements made in future products and can’t wait to see what comes out of these companies in the aftermath of this round-up.

I got the Microsoft Habu one - it's based on/made by Razer. I quite like it.

I had the vice versa once, I bought an internal 56k modem from PC World, got home, opened the package, NO MODEM! :)

Took it back, they refunded me straight away!

Hahahaha! Oh, look, it's .3 millimetres better than the leading brand!
I, for one, just couldn't take these people seriously enough to buy something from them.

I'm using a Logitech MX3000 cordless keyboard and mouse for my slower computer. The mouse takes AA batteries and does not have a handy recharger base, and the mouse feels rather cheap, but the battery life is amazing!

I am not sure how well the mouse works for action games, though; that computer is too slow to really run them. (I got that model because it cost the least, really).
If you don't want your mouse moaning at you to be recharged, (a serious hindrance!), I highly recommend one with similar technology. (The laser as opposed to the infrared / optical bother used previously). It's fairly common place now, but I still see a lot of the optical mice for some reason...

The Razer does look very nice... just to throw it into the mix, anyone experienced this? Just curious.

The smooth scroll wheel sounds good. I remember reading the documentation for scroll wheels on MSDN and found it interesting that they'd planned ahead for it. I was wondering when it would pop up!

Go for the logitech G5 - it's a whole different level of mouse. Very smooth movement, pinpoint accuracy, comfortable to hold, great for anything and everything you use it for.

I've tried a Razer in the past, and it was cheap + plasticky.

Logitech. I've had my Trackman Marble for about 12 years without any failures. I suppose it depends on what you need it for...

Ah, another trackball user! I have an MS optical trackball wotsit, and love it. Wouldn't be much good for playing FPS games though, I doubt. Luckily, I don't play them. Doubt I'd go back to a mouse.

I don't think I've ever had a Logitech mouse die on me, they're generally good quality, and comfortable, even for someone who liked the size of the original XBox controller.

Whatever happened to the Logitech G7?

I was going to buy one when the price came down a little, but now it seems my only option is to go back to a corded mouse (I have an MX1000 at the moment) or spend a fortune on the MX revolution.
