Which "Next Gen" console would YOU chose?
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Which "Next Gen" console would YOU chose?
OK, Ok, there are arguments going on left right and centre, and it's getting very foggy around here! it made me wonder, which of the next gen consoles would win with this community?
Disregard the consoles you presently own. As of right now, if you could be given any one of the three consoles, which would you take:
Xbox360: I
PS3: I
WII: II
Your votes start now.
WII
PS4 or Xbox 720 still waiting on the specs on which crystal storage device they opt for. The Xbox 720 organic controller is way cool though.
wii
None. There aren't any games that I want to play.
I'll wait to see which console has the most Japanese RPGs when the current generation is on the verge of being replaced.
xbox360. Wii is a laugh but it's the kind of thing I want a friend to buy because it only comes into its own for multi-player, IMO.
We seem to have a new thread like this every few months. But anyways, PS3.

You sarcastic Bugger! :P
Wii without a doubt. I`ve been lucky enough to have played on all three for lengthy periods now but still find the Wii the most fun after the graphical thrill of the PS3 and XBox 360 wears off. They seem to churn out the same old thing only with a fresh coat of paint each time.
Besides, NiGHTS is coming to the Wii!
Jason.
Wii
Already got a Wii. At the moment none of the other consoles have any games that appeal to me. With GTA4 and Mass Effect on the horizon tho' the scales are tipped slightly in the X360's favor. Once the price drops. To around $100 USD.
I have a Wii and a 360. The latter is mainly used as a CD player at the moment.
I'd like a free PS3.
I'll have a PS3 please. Do you need my mailing address or do I have to pick it up in person? ;)
tho.. I mgiht take a ps3, hock it on ebay and buy wii, DS, and some extra controlers...
Still in favour of the Wii here (and own one), albeit I'm in the same situation as FlameDuck, where a couple specific titles of interest are coming out on the 360....
> where a couple specific titles of interest are coming out on the 360....
If the sales figures somebody has in his sig are accurate then I don't think this will be a problem for much longer.
I like the PS4 but i guess i will take a PS3 once LBP is out. :O)
wii .. for the controller in combination with sport/tennis. For the rest I don't care much for typical nextgen-console games, do me 2d/retro/pixels any day.. :P
CS. Have you seen super paper mario? Oldschool looking as ever.. and it's a whole lot of fun.. and hilarious.
I'll be getting an Xbox 360, once the new 65nm fabricated GPU, CPU version is released later this year with the $100 price drop. I'll grab one then I think.
All the games I am most looking forward to come out for 360.
WII
Right now? Wii
1-2 year's time? PS3.
damp: no, only played tennis on someone else's wii. I tried a darts game as well, but it felt completely alien and unrealistic. I've not seen non-sports games yet, but at forehand I can't imagine needing a 3d/space-controller for a 2d game.
360 for me. No games on the PS3 or Wii that appeal to me.
CS
You turn the controler on it's side and use it like the old NES one. You shake the controler to put some finese on an attack. It isn't entirely 2D... you can press A to switch into 3D... it is a great game... You have to play it to really get it.
Is that controller patented btw, or otherwise exclusive to nintendo?
How long before some random company makes these controllers (and receivers) for ordinary PC's, so we can use 'em for our own stuff, and we don't have to rely on nintendo games to get the experience?
People have got them working on ordinary PC's already. The controllers can be bought separately anyway.
Then what do I care anyway, one can just wait on shareware tennisgames for PC that support that wii controller, and done ye be.
Yeah, that'll be just as good.
JP. Do you have any links to software that lets a wiimote work with a pc? I wanna be able to use my PC from my bed...
No. I've seen videos posted on the net. I'll if I can find it.
One of the guys on the ogre forum started playing with the wiimote and has a simple demo you can try called wiisticks.

An early vid of his freeware trampoline game using a wiimote:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1L0hpMLxetAI don't have a wii, so I havent been able to test it. I know Cygnus has been using his wiimote using blitz too.

I see to flaws with that statement.
1) Not much in the way of tennisgamnes for the PC, shareware or otherwise.
2) Most PC games don't even support a regular gamepad or joystick yet. How likely are they to support the Wiimote (at least directly).
In either case, if you want to have a play around I hear
GlovePIE is pretty good.
I think the problem is you need a bluetooth adapter, after which it just works, for the most part.

-yet-
A wii controller might just be the right kick in the arse of programmers to make such games.

I don't expect current games to support the wiimote tho, I'm opting new games here. Imagine a customer in a shop: [option 1] - buy an expensive wii and expensive games or [option 2] get a wiimote only and leech the rest from internet. I actually see a market for such small sportsims on PC supporting the wiimote.
PS3.
I have interfaced the WII Remote to my PC, and my GOD is that fun! :D the PC detects it as a bluetooth device.
I would take the PS3, because I can mess up with linux on it! (seems like more fun than to play a game!).
I experiment with xna on my 360 and use it as a media center.
The only console I play with is the Wii !
PS3 .. I have it and I love it..
I'd buy the one that actually was "next-gen". None of these.. Move along.
Well, since I'm Wii60 here, I can nearly say that an X720 and whatever Nintendo calls their next console will most certainly come in handy. I've dealt with Sony enough already, they had their time to shine, but decided to move onto the underdogs.
PS3, once Gran Turismo, GTA4 and Final Fantasy 13 are out.
I'd take the Xbox 360, my girlfriend would take the Wii and we'd both still laugh at people who paid $600 for the PS3 ;)
Very true, even Microsoft recommended that for the same price as a PS3, you could very easily have the Wii60 combo, and have just as much, if not more advantages to that. Even having an X360 Elite with an HD-DVD addon would probably be a bit better in the long haul.
I might rent a ps3 (or befriend someone who has one) when FF13 comes out... Or.. I might buy one, then sell it on ebay bundled with FF13 after I beat it...
ff13 is just another movie, with some sort of interactive dvd function, oh it's a game? :)
Heh, well, we all know that Wii60 is my living room combo, however, I think that the DS Lite is my preferred handheld, since the PSP seemed to lose its flair with me, especially with puzzle games and platformers. I just think that the stylus/touchscreen seems to work better than a thumbpad. Also, battery life is far superior with cartridge/solid-state based games than itty-bitty optical discs, it's those and the lack of solid titles that turned me against the PSP. Even GTA games are better on the big HDTV than an itty-bitty widescreen.
I'll take your PSP off your hands :)
Hehe, right. Nintendo still holds their own in the handheld market to this day, thanks to more solid titles, and the fact that it's hard not to have exclusive titles, because of the two-screen/touchscreen concept.
XBox 360
Definitely Wii
already own it and don't plan to buy any of the other two. (I've an 8800GTS if I want great graphics with games at an acceptable price)
Got a Wii, X360, PS2 (no plans to upgrade to PS3 anytime soon), PSP (which I may get rid of), and a DS Lite. Seems like these are great consoles and handhelds. There's a lot of exclusives that are easy to grab. Also, whatever multiplatform titles there are, I just go for the one that's on sale, simple as that.
I'm going to get a PS3 the moment they come down in price.
PS3 is waay overpriced. I've played a few games and I know of a few mates who have bought them and they reckon its not that much better than a PS2.
If I didnt already have one I would say 360. There's plenty of good games out (Snowplanet, Splinter Cell) and some around the corner that look spectacular. Bring on Halo3.
Well, I sort of feel that Sony's waaayyyy past their prime right now. The PS3 would have been a fun console, but after that price tag, and knowing that Microsoft's deep pockets are pulling their exclusives left and right, I'd have to say that Sony may wind up pulling another Dreamcast/Sega this time around, sorry to tell you guys.
wii isn't a 'next-gen' console
PS3 seems to be helping blueray win the HD DVD wars though, which is a big deal here since HDTV televisions aren't a niche anymore.
Sony says they will have a price cut soon too, not that they have supplies up to meet demand and cheaper manufacturing.
the PS3 has PS2 compatibility problems atm so till they fix those the sales will not be good, how many ps2/ps1 owners want to run the already vast game collections on thier ps3 only to find they cant.
the PS3 has PS2 compatibility problems atm
And the 360 doesn't? I only managed to find one XBox game I wanted to play on my 360. All the others are not compatible.
> And the 360 doesn't?
It does, but really, how many Xbox owners are there? :)
And how many old Xbox games aren't complete dreck? :D
exactly, the playstation was a much more popular console hence the wider audience
wii isn't a 'next-gen' console
Generation is defined by age, not technological wow.
Sony says they will have a price cut soon too,
Actually, they're saying the exact opposite.
o_O
How could THAT be?! If Sony raised the price, Sony's doomed. Kutaragi's history, and that can only spell trouble for the gaming industry in the future. Kaz Hirai's more about the games, not the hardware.
I think he meant that they are denying the price cut rumours. :)
Which any sensible manufacturer would do - regardless of the truth - because they don't want to hurt their short-term sales.
none, they all retail at way to much for me to actually be bothered with them.
Bah, same with Microsoft. If consoles are this expensive, then I think Nintendo's gonna win because they are the only affordable console of the bunch. Even the Core X360 is $50 more, and doesn't come with all the same stuff that Nintendo gives ya.
If consoles are this expensive, then I think Nintendo's gonna win because they are the only affordable console of the bunch.
That's if you can get hold of one. They STILL seem to be in very short supply. Ninty must be losing sales because of this. What are they thinking?
Depends although personally Wii there are a few good arguments (and counter-arguments) against it
But for now I list pros and cons for all systems
Xbox 360
Pros: Graphically powerful, has been out for over a year (and possibly + 1/2 year, Not too hard to find good game (or system for that matter) Good online support
Cons: although there are great games diversity is an issue(Clarification: If you like a wide and I mean wide viaritey of games you will be on a somewhat dissipointed side because some other generes are practically impossible such as space sims this note is for PC gamers exception RTS fans)
Wii
Pros: the wii Remote (duh) Innovative in controls, can have lots of fun with them, solid franchise titles, incredibly promising titles coming out soon, VC usually has a good stock of great games
Cons: lots of third party games are ruining your wii in fun factor still new console some VC games are pathetic
PS3
Pros Great graphics package
Cons: expensive
If I missed anything just say so
You missed something.
PS3 -- Wii and 360
all utter crap
sales figures speak for themselves. 40+ million units strong of nintendo DS sold.
