Want to see something a bit different?

I am flogging my cocktail cabinet on eBay if anyone is interested. I finished making it a couple of weeks ago so if you are at all interested in nostalgia (which most of us are) then you might like to take a look....

This is pretty interesting ;)

This is a UK only auction.
That is not fair. At all. :o<

Just wondering, whats the reserve price Prof?

Dabz

Nice.... :D

That is totally awesome!

love it.

Sorry Flameduck, I knew that you would be interested :)

Dabz... C'mon, I can't really tell you that can I?
Why don't you put a bid in and find out?

It was worth a try! ;)

mmmmm, I might, but I'll keep my little beady eye on it first! :D hehehe

I love ebay, I've managed to get some cracking bargains, though, I've never managed to sell anything! :)

Proof:failed item, I was going to post it here, but, well, you know how it is, and I wasnt to sure if it would be okay!

So if anyone wants it (UK Only), I'll send it to them, free of charge!

@Prof, nice piece of kit....

Looks good. How comes you don't want it yourself (I only ask because you finished it just 2 weeks ago).

A friend of mine has one of these, (not in as good condition as yours) so I just go round there when I feel like some nostalgia.

How comes you don't want it yourself

Because I have two of them. This is what I do with my spare time just to earn a few bucks. I have made about ten of these now but this is only the second one that I have put on eBay. The others sold locally as soon as I made them.

I was toying with the idea of building some upright mame cabinets from scratch to flog, but I'm not sure how good my woodwork is. Sounds like they are pretty popular. Good luck with it.

@Nomen luni.....

I was just like you before I made the first one. My wood working skills were pretty poor at the time and I had no idea if they would sell or not. The thing you have to do is just try it and find out. If you dont try you will never know and you will be forever wondering 'what might have been'.

I also sell the very popular PC Arcade Controller (MKII) on eBay which are similar to the iPAC/jPAC. Again, I had no idea if they would sell and after learning how to hack a keyboard encoder I just made one and stuck it on eBay. It sold straight away and I have now sold over 250 of these.

You have just got to 'have a go' at trying stuff.

Prof.

Wow! Thanks for the encouragement, Prof. I may just have a go some day... but it's always 'some day' with me.

looks good, but the screen is not upright. I have never seen an arcade machine with a screen like that. Why do you make it like that?

marcw - there were heaps of those machines (and still are) in lots of pubs and hotels when I was a kid, the upright ones seemed to appear a bit later.

Heh, nice one prof!
Too bad i live too far away :( -(like sweden far away)

Yeah they are the classic 'cocktail cabinet' designs favoured in pubs of old. Gave you somewhere to rest your pint.

@markcw...

I made it like that so that you can use the machine for normal pc use including internet etc. Placing the monitor in the original upright position would cause all sorts of problems and I wanted it to be compatible with other emulators as well. I have Tiger Woods PGA Golf 2005 on it as well as some other PC games and the screen needs to be horizontal for these games.

Prof.

Neat. I've wanted a proper MAME cab for ages. It's always been a case of not enough money, or not enough room for one, though. I'll get one one day, dammit! :)

Prolly go for an upright cab, though. I like cocktail cabs but always found them difficult to play on. A combo of back ache and trying to get to grips with a horizontally mounted joystick. Trying to play games like Pac-Man with a horizontal stick just proved too much for my brain. :)
