Read some of those stats. 11.38 terrabit network!

Mind you 250Tb of data storage is a bit lame, that's only 500x500Gb Hard disks. You'd think they'd be up in the Petabyte zone by now...

Yeah that´s awesome, 1000 times bigger than my render farm of 10 pcs. One week of my render time = 7 hrs for them.

More like 10 minutes ;)

Yikes!

Without even following the link, I'm already aware that BBC reporters do things like "how many GHz network adapters do you have? 100, OK, that means you have a 100GHz network."

once again.. bad reporting in the way of technology is always a problem.

Except that those numbers were provided by Lucasarts/film/skywalker studios

An interesting renderfarm project is BURP Big and Ugly Rendering Project ( http://burp.boinc.dk/ ). It's an open-source publicly distributed render system, based on the same concept as SETI@home, and other projects like it. Basically, you joing a peer-to-peer network of rendernodes, and donate your machinepower to rendering jobs. In theory, this could become a much more powerfull renderfarm than what Lucas Films has. :)
