Steam hacked

I know quite a few people here are HL2 players, and thus users of Steam.

I'll bet my life he's going to get caught.

I'm pretty sure my card details are in there as I have bought direct via Steam.

What this idiot doesn't realise is there are many people who play Valve/Steam games some of whom will probably hunt him down and kill him.

That's a bit worrying, isn't it. I hope that he'll pay for any copies of Bullet Candy he pilfers.

Thats been beggin to be done for a long time, Its also not the first time its happened.

A good while ago while CS was still under the old management the CS main servers were brought to its knee's by a hacker crew, this was because one of them got banned, CS-Site had no alternative but to lift the ban and allow them to play again, At the same time they launched an investigation to find out how they did it and to try and catch those responsible, when they got close to finding out they made the horrible mistake of leaving their Intel on one of their networked machines, a hacker found it and CS was again taken to its knee's, they dropped all investigations shortly after in fear of having their service taken offline for good.

Steam is a very big target because it serves so many people, the second you start to effect so many people its only a matter of time before one of them happens to know his way around the internet, and only a matter of time before you/thecompany/steam pisses them off enough to make them start digging.

Hacking isn't bad, its not something people should be screaming about and saying kill all hackers or hunt them down(i know no one said but) Its not the hacker community, its the individual hacker that should be held accountable, not the mass.

Although the action, and thought of what he has control over is scary, the end result will be a positive one, Steam will bolster their secuirty, improve services and all round make the system better to counter any further attacks.

I've bought tons of stuff off Steam, and I'm not even remotely worried about this. I've more chance of someone stealing my details at a petrol station. Each time I pay using Steam it asks me to enter my credit card details again - they are obviously not held on file, perhaps only for these 'CyberCafe' accounts (I'm assuming regular debtors of some sort).

I think there's no need for the average customer to worry.

Talking about petrol stations, You know those new stations where you can pay at the pump, well how do you think your data is sent from the pump to the system, in this case inside the station.

Turns out that although a lot of stations are running lines between the pumps up to the roof and then along to the station building there are still hundreds of them out there that do it completely wifi.

what's worse, is that those stations being surrounded by large chucks on metal need their wifi access points in plain view, normally hanging on the wall behind the tills, this gives the wouldbe hacker the model, make, and as much background as he would ever need on the hardware being used.

Asda or tesco are the worst culprits for this.
