Ideas for games!

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Ideas for games!

Let's create a thread of game ideas - stuff that simply hasn't been done before. Give your game a name, and describe it briefly.

You make the decisions that can make or break a relationship. Couples come to visit you, and it's YOUR task to try and repair the relationship or end it.

Quidditch with aim-9 sidewinders mounted under the brooms. That would sell.

I had an idea of a block dropping affair, with scrabble tiles and a board for the game area (Triple word score etc etc)

Basically, you had seven tiles on the bottom, and as the tile dropped, you can change it to one of the tiles in your set.

When you managed to spell a work, the tile score would collect up and that would be added to your total score.

It was a little more than that, but that was the jist of it! :)

Game-night-mashup

Basicly, you have a Chess-like board, and all the possible pieces that can go on one. Checkers, Chess, Stratego, Sorry, Clue and various other compatable pieces and movement types and goals. Each piece has a goal, based on it's rules and the player either gets them at random, or gets them in a specific set. The winner is a based on scores, as made by how pieces make their goals happen, and the game ends when a set number of turns are up.

ALSO

Side-kick

I was once told in class that you can't make an interesting game where youp lay the side-kick.

In this title, you play the child-genius side-kick to a bumbleing super-hero. He will predictably enter a situation, as governed by a plan he lays out before the level. Your job is to make sure it ACTUALLY works. As long as the hero get's his man, you win.

Example. The hero wants to run hung-ho into a room full of guys with guns. He will surely die. You have several options, maybe you can find a way to knock them all out? Or distract them with an explosion... Or something else entirely.

You'd have a lot of gadgets you can use, and also a lot of mobility and some fighting skills yourself. But the key to all the levels is getting the Hero into the right situations, using all your fun gadgets to get him where he SHOULD be to complete the goals.

Padded suit lumber swats simulator.

Are people really going to openly share their ideas when, if it is a good idea, they'd want to hoard it and make money off it? ;-)

Bo

A staff fighting game for the Wii, where you hold the wiimote and nunchuck like a staff. thumb-pad controls 'lean', 'duck' and 'jump' while the control stick does walking. leaning and turning together makes for strafe.

Mezzo-America

RTS with an early american motif. Not purely cookie cutter. Resources are 'Wood' 'Maize' 'Game' 'Human' and 'Stone'.

The player must balance these resources, appease gods, battle nearby peoples and over time build a giant empire. Heavy emphasis on terrain usage, non-standard weapon types, and building.

Religious leaders give strong encourgements and bonuses to nearby troups, as do religious buildings. Different units will get different bonuses. Leaders get stronger through human sacrifice, so there is a STRONG emphasis of capture, not just killing.

Sounds like Hong Kong Fuey to me :)

Good ideas are hard to come by and generally involve smoking copious amounts of weed ;) I think there was a website devoted to peoples ideas. I forget the name of it but I remember none of them being original - simply re-workings of already established genres.

Stevie

I would tell you, but i don't want my (or i guess it's my sister and dad's) idea to get stolen :P

Window repair man. You have to go round repairing windows broken by people whos Wii controllers fly out of their hands and go through the window. Do you think Nintendo would be interested?

You'd have to ask Nintendo to get the answer to that.

You know what, Sonicfactory? I liked your idea so much, I went and wrote that game for you! Check it out.

In it, you visit a couple's apartment in first person view, they talk to you and you type back. Through the things you
say and do (touching, hugging, etc) you can either mend their faltering relationship, steal one of them away, or
just fail miserably and get kicked out of the apartment!

Here's a video to show I'm not joking around

Ooh Facade - I've played that, it's neat!

Did you develop that or work on it?

However I would aim for something where a variety of couples with many different issues come to visit you - more of a 'Sim' game, but without being dumbed down.

Hot Air Balloon Simulator. You can go up or down.

That's not far off my current project

I've heard people say that you can't get any original ideas from watching TV. But I think they're wrong. I was at work and glanced at the plasma TV they have there, and it was showing a bunch of pool tables in the same room. It took me a moment to realize that it was simply a pool championship hall, but I got an idea.

The game is a mix between Pool and Golf, where you have as many balls as you do in a game of pool, but play on a wide variety of tables - or even open spaces. You can launch your pool balls off ramps or hit them like a golf balls to get air. As far as the goals of the game, I didn't land on anything concrete, but there could be a wide variety of different objectives to play with.

Of course I have all kinds of other ideas, but afraid of sharing them in case someone uses it before I can. But then, ideas are a dime a dozen, so...

God

You play god. Only you are limited to inspireing new 'commandments', which will get twisted over time. And killing single individuals. Got a tv evangelist who is giving you a bad name? Wait till he is on stage and hit him with a lightning bolt. Also, you can effect the outcome of sports games in favor of whoever prayed to you the hardest before the game.

I somehow see potential in this idea... With a sort of adventure game feel (the kind from the good old days), and a bit of inspiration from this mixed in, it could actually work!

Has anyone here seen / played that puzzlish game where you build a race track, then race on it, to achieve a particular goal?
This idea is sort of like it (and building on Storm's golf/pool idea). How about a mini golf game that starts you off with an impossible scene and your job is to make it possible (then play it) using particular objects?
It would fit in with that physics-based gameplay thing, and it could also be quite awesome. (Assuming you know how to make good levels for puzzle games, which I do not).

Haha good stuff.

(But no, I had nothing to do with the development of Facade)

All of the game ideas I've posted in here are serious. If anyone wants to use them, go ahead. I never will get around to them.

I can ellaborate on them if you want.

I might post more later.

A game where you're the devil and you have to cut down trees. It's called Lucifer the Logger. I can't believe I'm letting everyone steal my brother's idea!
