Blitz Awards.

What if they had some.

What I am thinking is that BRL create their own awards and issue them to products made by the community using their products.

The Ideas simple really, Mark and Co, pick 5 people from the community to be part of the Judging team, these 5 people look at all new releases and then vote, once they have a product they feel deserves an award they forward this to BRL as I don't know who the full team is I will simply say Mark. so they forward the product and reasons and award they feel is just to mark, he looks it over, and if he agrees then the award is given.

This would be a nice boost to the developers here and would also help highlight the exceptional work, and could help spur on sales and downloads of the free & commercial stuff made in blitz.

Would be also nice if the community helped designed the awards.

Here is what I was thinking, but I am sure there are some awesome ideas out there so lets see what you got, and Mark if you read this, or if any of the other BRL team Reads this, could you let us know what you think ?

Could it also be a product to help blitzers, made in other languages?

The main thought of this is to reward people developing in and with Blitz, who make exceptional applications and games with the product.

Examples like naked war, the lightmapper everyone uses etc.. in my mind would get the above AAA awards.

could be different awards for games,applications,art,sound as these are all key aspects of games development.

We nominate ourselves as all 5 judges and we win all prizes we do with our great games 'Split-Personality-Malicious-Sniper's-Challenge'...with excellent 'Split-Screen' modes. We lie down now but we be back.

The grey logo looks as if it's the lowest rank of all three :P

I'd not just look at complete (game-)releases tho, there are more things you could have a look at: "Forum personality of the year", "Code archives entry of the year", "artwork of the year", "tune of the year" etc. etc.

Yeah there is a lot of scope here, I was delibratly trying to keep it simply as not to scare BRL away from the initial idea lol..

I was thinking Gold,Silver,Bronze on those awards but they were done in 2 seconds just to show an example of what I was talking about.

Feel free to make some and show us, I am sure, actually I hope people start posting their ideas for the design of the awards.

there are lots of ideas to throw at BRL, just hope they dont shy away from it and think its to much work. which is also why i suggested that they pick 5 random community members to do most of the grunt work and they just have the final yah or nah on each award..

..I have no bright idea about how things should be done, but I like this suggestion...

This concept has some mileage, see who else is into it...

The thing about silver (and other metals) is that it's reflective, so it's really no shame to have the least bit o'color in it.

They used to have monthly awards of sorts in the newsletter. Ahh, the Blitz newsletter - anyone remember that? :P

I don't think it matters what the awards look like at this stage, the concept is the important thing, right?

And Yeah I miss the Newsletters. At the time I felt like the community was on its last legs, no news letter to me meant no news, or lack of anything new. but I don't think thats the case, just that the news is a little further apart due to longer development cycles.

I vote for reinstating Blitzer of the Month. Or was it week?

How can I submit my stuff though? None of my projects contain my own media - Blitz Oblivion countains mainly Oblivion and Dark Messiah geometry with sound and music from those games plus multiple other RPGs and things like the Age of Empires games etc.

Personally, I would be against submitting just the code as whose to say the judges won't pillage it.

What about an option to submit video footage of a project?

Lol - Puki - then you would have to be one of the judges. You'd be able to spot new media to pilage and no-one would enter for fear of it!

I like the idea, and as I could not send in my full programmes I like the idea of video entry, so long as the video entry category are taken seriously. (how do you know how good something is to play if you can't play it?)

T.B.H, The Judge's should be able to grasp enough of a handle on a product from the Trial if its a commercial version, and if its free then there is no problem.

I was also not even thinking about having material submitted, was thinking more along the lines of other people recommending the material to them via a simple web form on the site that is then forwarded to all 5 judges.

Blitzer of the week? Games aren't even released that often anyway.

- General Time waster of the week
- Fastest random topic deleted of the week
- Bigger post count accumulator of the week
- Longest time unfinished Blitz project award

Not everyone is using blitz soley in an attempt to write and complete games, Enay. ;)

For most people, it's just a hobby to be enjoyed. If this means farting about doing any number of things and not finishing anything, so be it - no skin off my nose. The main point of a hobby is for it just to be enjoyable, no? :)

Yes Big10p, it's a very good point. It's what I used to program for, a fun hobby, for like 22 years.

But let me say this, finishing something really does feel great.

Well I can tell you in the military a person has to meet the criteria to be considered for an award. So, just make up a small criteria list and if a person meets it then they're eligible to be sumbitted for it. Good luck on defining the criteria. :(

I vote for "Must be taller than 180cm".

Screw criteria, thats the call of the 5 judge's.

To be honest a really good application, or game should stand out like a man in a pink shirt in a sea of whit coated scientists.

The Only criteria should be that it was developed using our beloved Blitz, in one of its forms.

As for Music or art, the must be used in a blitz made game or app, so you cant just pluck good images out your back catalogue its goto be something used in a blitz made project.

The Aim here is to show off what blitz can do, and gain some credit and awards in the processes, this is one of those things that benefit everyone, BRL benefits from the extra hype, the developer benefits in added sales(touch wood) its a win , win situation.

I think BRL only gains when these awards will go beyond this website and are acknowledged by non Blitz ppl. The ppl who're here on the forums already bought something, so no-one needs to impress us and ourself :P

That may be the case if the award are only shown here, but with all of our releases, all of our own websites and all of the downloads the the combined community get a week, if those awards are shown proudly in our products as many other AAA Games companies do then they will quickly gain credit, sales, and a lot of attention from other people. outside of the community.

Blitz Oscars? Can we have a show then too that's seen all over the globe - and of course some hot silicone-celebrities as well? :)

Plus, that list only takes into account quantity, and not quality. :)
