searching for a good 2d artist.

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/searching for a good 2d artist.

Does anyone know where I can get some good 2d animation artists ?
Someone that can make cartoons for example.

I'm yust checking how many people can help me in the future with this.

Is there a website for 2d (animation) artists ?

(and yes I know that they cost money)

Thanks for the info,
GC-Martijn

Can you provide examples of the type of art you want?

sam and max

Monkey Island

As you can see high 2d 'cartoon' art

What you're looking for is easier to find than the holy grail. I know that you said that you're willing to pay for your art, but if you're wanting artword comparable to Sam'n'Max or Monkey island in terms of bulk and quality, and including animation, then you are going to have to really pay through the nose for it.

Just out of curiousity, how much are you willing to pay?

Ask around at art schools. Perhaps some student could do some for you, and you could provide an internship, both happy camps. Orso.. dunno.. :P

@CS_TBL
I was thinking about that yea.

Maybe there are some artists who want to help me only because they like to make a game. (but that very hard to find)

@justLuke.
Well i don't have many many money but if I can make a good concept.
maybe € 3000 for 1000 hours.

Assuming full-time @ 8h/day and assuming a monday-friday scheme then that's half a year fulltime, for $3000? I'd really ask around the art-school first.. :P

@CS_TBL
yea I'm searching now at art-schools.
btw it was € not $ (4,013.64 USD).
But I don't have any price idea yet because I don't know how:
- how big the project will be
- how large the project is
- how old the artist is
- how good the artist is
- etc etc

And I think it won't be a fulltime day job but 1000 hours over 1 year.

If you don't know how large the project is then perhaps you should develop it more before you look for an artist.

Why don't you finish the game with temporary art first? I think that you will have more luck attracting artists if you can demonstrate a working game to them.

I have an animation major friend of mine over at colins college. You prolly won't get monkey island out of him, but he sure could use the money, and -might- be willing. Unfortunately I don't have his e-mail.

We were friends in real life, and I never bothered to get one from him... All I have is his OKCupid account. I'll try to ask him on there, but you are welcome to go look him up there yourself.

Just remember. 1000 hours over 1 year is almost 3 hours a day. I don't think you'll find anyone willing to do that for less than at least min wage. Which here in the USA is around 7$ an hour Which is almost double what you are offering. But I can't speak for Steve. You'll just have to ask him.. I'll try to get his e-mail for you.

maybe € 3000 for 1000 hours.
That's only like three Euro an hour. For a good artist? He could make more money working at Walmart or McDonalds. If you want a skilled artist and animator, you're gonna be looking to paying them way more than that.

In Denmark a good (freelance) animator would cost at least 200 Danish wooden money an hour, which would be about €27. At that price it'd probably be cheaper to just hire someone, particularly if you need them for thousands of hours.

the € 3000 for 1000 hours is maybe too low yea.

But I don't need a 2d artist for full time, I think I have found a freelance animator who can make a character first so I can work with that.
And do the other animations/background etc later. (then I can show people what i'm making)

Do you think the above pics were made using a tablet?

Do you think the above pics were made using a tablet?

Nah, they're done traditionally on paper, cleaned-up/inked, then depending on the game, a) either coloured traditionally, then scanned in and cleaned-up/palletized on the PC (256-color limit, gotta hate 'em), or b) fully coloured on PC.

That's the kind of career I plan to work in when I graduate from traditional animation from a 3yr course in college.
(already got accepted, just a matter of waiting for the course to start this September)

Incase you are still looking.
