The internet is NOT safe. False search results...

OK, I've just been checking for a "TravelMate 4290" on google. Thats exactly what I typed in.

One result came back, and I clicked it, only to be over-run by porn popups and "on-close" scripts when I shut them.

How the heck to I explain this to my superiors??? ¬.¬ They won't know what Hijacked means...

Crazy this, since the google result looks OK until you look *hard* at the address.

So, They're getting around "Safesearch" now apparently...

Well I know what Hyjacked means, and I dont think youve explained it to me to the point that I believe you ;(

A "TravelMate" - is that something like a playboy bunny who you can hire out for road trips?

haha, Justluke: An ACER TravelMate is a laptop. I wasn't sure if the model existed so I typed it into google. Only one result came up so I was still suspicious, so i clicked to see if the spec was there. WOOPS, No spec.

H&K I have no idea if they were hijacked- but the result in google is nothing to do with what you actually get when you click it haha.

I really wouldn't worry about it. If you are that concerned, drop your boss a mail explaining what happened.

That sounds like some kind of nasty program has come in and is changing your inputed info. I just typed in the same search on the machine here at work and it was fine.

I had something like this once where no matter what URL i typed it it went to hotslutz.com or something like that.

Turned out to be some kind of virus/spyware/adware/malware/microsoft type thingy :/

They jut insert tons of keywords into their pages and try to increase their page rank, that simply mislead the serach engine.

Yoko, I normally see that from a mile away, but the results looked OK. However, the page when clicked went to what google said it was, but jumped to the dodgy site very quickly.

Dan: I doubt its that- but I ran a scan just after in case. Nothing came up :/ unlike some of those popups....

I agree with Dan, either something else entered a "False" search ooorrrr, (which I think more likly), is that you entered incorrect search words.

(If you still have the search history, go back and look)

Cygnus, it very likely coz serach engines doesn't execute java scripts or meta refresh info, it's a security hole to lead a unauthorized jump when user enter the trap site.

I have a middle-sized site and prove this is posible, it's very strange but true.

H&K i can confirm I wrote exactly as I wrote above- Like i said, the description in the search results looked OK too. Only after I clicked was I shocked haha.

I've no idea. It was pretty wierd though...
