Of course skeptics where quick to point out that since Vista was released on the 30th January, Vista has only been released for 90 make believe days (which are only 16 hours long).

Well, he did say in the report that it was since the official release, back in October to business, not the general retail release.

Still, he does have a valid point: Vista is the most secure OS Microsoft has ever released.

If there was no such thing as an operating system, and computers were a new invention.

If people tried out (for both home and biz) all pre installed for their machine and ready to go:
Vista and usual software
OSX and usual software
Linux/unix etc running gnome/kde etc. and usual software
(and all the others)

For the first time and put it through their paces for 2-3 years (say a 3rd of the market each, where the performance, learning curves, security flaws/bugs and value 4 money could be analysed and improved on)
Im more than convinced all MS would win would be a wooden spoon.

These look like they might be cherry-picked OS releases. Let's see a comparison to every OS released over the past few years, not just carefully chosen flavors of Linux, OS X, etc. And since (AFAIK) those other OSes didn't have a limited businesses-only "pre-release" it'd probably be more fair to count the 90 days from the Vista release to the general public. If it holds up with those conditions, I might be impressed by Vista's security.

To be honest vista was out long before that so called company only release, cos its been floating around on torrent sites for ages.

I also know its been thrashed the hell out of by some interested computer groups to find any and all vulnrabilities, although some have been found, no where near as many have been found in their older OS's over the same period of time, from what I can see Vista is a very large leap forward in terms of home and personal computer security.

For windows systems i would agree, but windows will never be as secure as other systems until they totally change the way the filesystem works or adopt a proven one like NIX or LUX use.

Those who have watched F911 may remember the little panic room where the guy advertising it said "You can be sat in here, enjoying a glass of chardonnay, reading the market section and 'enjoying life' (while the world goes to hell)" (I remember crying with laughter watching that!!)

To me, that is where windows security is leading. Sure, youre secure sitting in a little box, but you dare not loosen the 100s of locks on the door.

And we all know how ev ery business on the planet couldn't wait to get their hands on it and rush out to install it.

For some reason, that's not at all comforting.

I can see a Russian site that lists 19 vulnerabilites in Vista - 11 of which seem to be elevated vulnerabilites.
