Animation Master

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Animation Master

I was talking to one of my friends who works for a large games developer, and he told me to check out Animation Master.

I did just that, based on what he was saying about it, and based on the video's I saw, it blew me away just how easy it was to make a model, bone it, animate it, and texture it.

So was wondering if any of you have it, or are using it, and if so how does it fit in working with blitz. what's the compatibility issues or are there any.

let me know.

If it's a pro dev tool, I'm guessing it costs mega ££££?

actually 299US$
:)

300$ from what I could see. that's about £150.

That should be well within the range of most of the more successfull Indie Devs that we have here.

I seem to recall someone posting about this a while back. I used to have AM a few years ago and I loved it. Packed full of features and easy to use. It was a bit buggy at the time. Of course Im not a good modeller so I probably hit more bugs than a normal person would ! and it was many years ago so I reckon its far more stable these days.
The problem was it was/is entirely spline based and exporting to any other format was hit and miss. They have some forums and last I took a look there was fair bit of activity regarding the exporting as people wanted to use it for game dev.

Id be interested if anyone does currently use it.

As far as I know the main issue is the spline
Game engines use triangulated models so you must convert your model
Animator master supplies also a .x exporter but the results are poor , at least so I have read

Animation Master has been around for a long time.

A famous internet short was animated entirely in it...
(ok.. maybe only famous to a few)

I used hash animation master in the mid 90's before 3dsmax had good organic modeling tools. It was totaly spline patch based and pretty cool for the price.

But I still prefered 3dsmax and would import my AM characters into 3dsmax 2.0

Animation Master is a big turd!!! Don't waste your time. 3d Studio Max is your best choice for game dev. I personally hate it, but it the least of a hassle to get your content from the program to your game.

I actually just finished a e-book that talks about getting a job in the animation industry, and talks about different software. I wouldn't try to use Maya for game export, Lightwave is ok. Bit of a hassle, but not as bad as Maya.

Get yourself a learning addition of Max and see if you like it. The final program is expensive, but if you plan on using it a lot, which you would with a game, it will totally be worth it. And who knows, I get paid a near 6 figure salary to do 3d art. It could turn into a valuable skill you could use to get a high paying job.

I agree tht 3ds max is best for games. I wouldn't use AM today. Shame Max is so expensive, not many people can afford it unless they do a course that lets them use the educational version.

You can get a demo copy of max for free to learn on, or get a copy of g-max for free to learn modelling on. I'd strongly advise not to got to a school to learn 3D animation though. Big waste of money.
