You guys really did it man. Congratulations! I'm sure other developers are taking notice of BMax as a serious gaming dev tool these days. Again, awesome work.
Congrats on Jewel Match!
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Congrats on Jewel Match! Thanks.
Ok, first off I don't care for match-3 games at all. I played Bejeweled though, just for research purposes. But this game is a bit different. I actually felt like it was me against the level. First play was 25 minutes and I got to level 5. Let me tell you that's a record for me playing a match-3 game. I couldn't get the left side chain released but that's ok, it was fun and really challenging. I'll be trying that level again (only 35 minutes of demo time left though, doh!)
I really liked how you have to clear the gold squares to finish the level and the hammer to break a jewel. It's a nice change from the mind numbing "fill the bar to beat the level" thing. I also like how the jewels fall diagonally, that one threw me off the first time I saw it but it's way cool. This could possibly be my first indie game purchase. I have to show this to my wife later tonight.
Congrats again Suricate Studios on a superb game!

Has anyone else tried the demo?
Looks fun. Have you tried Greys games too? :)
Thanks for your kind words Chroma :-)
Yes, the Hammer and the diagonal moves were important things for us to implement in the game.
You can download 'our' demo at http://www.suricate-software.com for one more free hour ;-)

Yeah I posted a thread a while ago saying wow, I didn't realise Jewel Match was made in BMax, and that it has done very well e.g. #1 on Real. Also of course you made that Christmas version too that we competed on (with Holiday Bonus) for a while on BFG ;-) Plus there was Holiday Gift. I imagine that yours did good due to previous fans of Jewel Match which hit the top 10 on BFG.

He he, yes, there was a lot of competion at Xmas time.
I'm glad you enjoyed the snow effect. (btw... there were 6 backgrounds in JMWW)
In your game I enjoyed the tree/progression idea. And the indoor background looks really good.
You and us were a bit in late anyway and I'm not sure it worthed the effort...
We'll see next year ;)

Pingus: oh 6, OK. I only saw 4 before it appeared to loop you see. Yeah that other game came out earlier. Basiaclly I'm not sure seasonal games are worth it. BUT I'll be relaunching Holiday Bonus this year for sure as it WILL still sell :-) Good luck to you too.
Seasonal games probably aren't but a seasonal expansion would be imo. Like the Halloween theme that pop cap gave Bejeweled at Halloween. That was a great idea.
Wow this game is superbly polished.
Really nice graphics, soothing music.
I particularly like the way the twinkling stars come from the crystal castle. It gives the game a magical (Disney) feel.
My hats off to the maker(s)

Chroma: You realise I nearly did a halloween match-3 game but was working on another project...Also missed the valentine boat TWICE now.
I think making the granddaddy of all match-3 games would be priority. Then release seasonal versions of it a couple of months before that season arrives.
I really dig 40x40 tiles. It seems about the best size imo. I was doing 50x50 for Orbicus but whe you switch to full screen it gets a bit uncomfortable moving the mouse over that much territory.

Yeah I did it arse about face with a seasonal one first. I had 40x40 tiiles in Xmas Bonus but boosted them up to 50x50 after that so it looked more "casual" and fun and more detail could be put into them. Montezuma has large titles, BKR has small ones...
I finally beat level 5! Level 6 is pretty darn hard. So hard that I didn't feel like repeating it. I guess I hit my match-3 threshhold lol. It's still a great game though.
It does appear though that the jewel drops are 100% totally random and don't help you out at all. I think a lot of other match-3 games actually scan the board and drop a jewel that could possibly help sometimes. I felt kinda out in the cold on getting a bit of help clearing the locked jewels on level 6.
GA, are your new tile drops in holiday bonus and Oz 100% random? Also is your start board 100% random where jewels are placed?

yep 100% random like all the other match-3 games. You just have to learn the skillz to make matches in the area you are concentrating on ;-)
