approaching an artist?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/approaching an artist?

ive started my first game in blitzmax, ill not spill the beans, but its nothing really exotic (nothing like a MMORPG,lol),because i know ill not get it finished. :-D

you can class it around the size of grey aliens bonus games (but not a match 3 game, its seems mr alien has a franchise on that already ;-])

the question is,if i have it ready enough, using placeholder images etc,how would i find an artist (i presume there are some on here already),as well what sort of questions should i be asking if i did talk to an artist?

any general advice would be great,as graphics arent my thing and i usually end up spoiling anything i make with my own images :-]

thanks for reading ;-]

edited:added *nothing* <---sounds weird,but thats what i did :-]

Money will solve all your problems.

Maybe you should have look through sites such as deviantart.

$£€ usually gets anyones attention. Personally I'd also demand clear list of things/gfx to be done, good communication with the customer (you) and a schedule that's humanly possible. And doing stuff for free/CV is so yesterday for me (my freelance work schedule is full at this moment though).

I estimate that artists also prefer to work on games that are to be finished and released, as it'll be another portfolio entry for them as well.

So, "but its nothing really exotic (like a MMORPG,lol),because i know ill not get it finished. :-D" does not bode well..

What you do, is get a big fat wad of cash, attach it to a piece of string, then hide around a corner.

When you feel a tug on the other end of the string, give it a good yank, and hey presto - there'll be an artist on the other end. They're a lot like bloodhounds, you see.

I think he's saying that it *isn't* a MMORPG because he knows he couldn't finish one.

I would try to finish the game totally yourself with your own "programmer art" then demo it and get an artist into it. Because then you'll have proven you actually have a finished game and are ready to market it as soon as you change the graphics (and music presumably).

There's plenty of game artist sites out there. I just can't remember any atm lol.

Try that indie developer site. There's probably a few posts on how to get an artist for your game. There might also be a few artists lurking here on these forums too.

I'd have your game at least 80% done before you start the search though. Finding a good artist is like trying to catch a leprechaun.

Unlike normal approach techniques, you approach an Artist from UPWIND

thats exactly what im saying, whats the point in biting off more than i can chew,if i know i couldnt possibly chew something like that on my own. ;-]

thanks for the heads up guys, very appreciated
