IE 7 Start Menu Lag

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/IE 7 Start Menu Lag

I`ve had this problem before on another XP Home computer and it is really annoying. After installing IE7 my start menu takes a few more seconds than normal to pop up. This doesn`t always happen only sometimes. I remember posting about this before but was just wondering if anyone else suffers from it or has found a solution to removing it. After uninstalling IE7 the problem remains. IE7 has been installed by mistake both times as it appears in the critical downloads list on Windows Update. How annoying!

Please help.

Jason.

Your icon cache might be getting a bit bloated. Look for iconcache.db in C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Local Settings\Application Data, and delete it. You'll need to 'show hidden files' in order to get to it.

You can also disable the Indexing Service since its biggest 'feature' is slowing everything down.

Never had a problem with IE7, but have had this problem with XP SP2 on a clean install multiple times. I just put up with it.

Thanks for the advice. How do I disable the Indexing Service that you mention?

I`ve also noticed that when I drag a box around some items on the desktop sometimes the box is left until I refresh. This didn`t happen before installing IE7. Strange.

There is an upgrade from IE7. It is called Firefox.

That's odd. The only times I've gotten that is in Windows 2000, or in XP when I've installed Windows 2000 on the same partition ;]

Right-click "My Computer", Manage, Services & Applications, Services, double-click "Indexing Service", Startup Type = Disabled, if the service is already running, click Stop, Apply, Ok.

That sounds like a graphics driver problem. I'd try updating them.

Damn, that was going to be my witty post :P
IE7 seems to lag horribly full stop on my 1.6ghz laptop compared to ie6 and firefox.

I do use Firefox though. IE7 was just installed by mistake as stated in my original post. I admit that I didn`t mention FF though so I`ll let you off ;)
