I'm working on a remake for Pathways into Darkness, as some of you may have seen in the graphics showcase...however in my spare time I'm working on a simple but fun RPG that will make use of some of the nice code features I invented for the PiD remake and some of my past failed projects. Anyway, I've finished the planning stage and started work on some of the base code, but I'm not quite certain what I want to call it.
So, I figured...why not get some input from other people? So, here's a summery of what it will have:
*Player chooses only male or female, develops their character entirely from skill trees rather than classes.
*Low level max of 10 allows more balanced character creation.
*Five multi-level dungeons, each with it's own unique appearence.
*Three classes of weapons, Sword, Axe, and Blunt.
*Two weapons each of subclasses: One Handed Sword, Two Handed Sword, Hand and a Half Sword, One Handed Axe, Two Handed Axe, One Handed Blunt, Two Handed Blunt.
*Five different styles of each weapon: Rusty Iron, Iron, Steel, Ornate, Ancient.
*Four types of shield to be used with one handed or hand and a half weapons (slightly degrades performance of hand and a half weapons).
*Four classes of armor, two light and two heavy: Leather, Chainmail, Plate, Ancient.
*Various suffix and prefix effects for weapons and armor, as well as preset unique versions.
*Rings and pendants with various magic suffix and prefix effects, as well as preset unique versions.
*Treasure items to boost your payout after each dungeon.
*Ten special combat powers, the player gains one each time they level up.
*Fire, Ice, and Lightning magic trees, each with powers that can be used on their own, and powers that augment melee combat.
*In addition to health, players have stamina that is used for combat powers, and mana that is used for magic powers.
*Each dungeon will have it's own set of monsters, with multiple variations of each type.
*Each dungeon will have a quest attached to it, ranging from treasure hunting to the ever popular "rescue the maiden in distress" gig.
*Score is in the form of your reward, based on completing quest objectives and collecting treasure.
So, in summery...It's a game sort of like diablo, but with a deeper combat system, and fewer but stronger monsters. Combat will be somewhat like an MMORPG, and the player can bind items and powers to hotkeys to allow for much smoother fighting.
The game style sort of pokes fun at the traditional RPG trend of talking to someone in a bar and getting "Please, would you help me? I need someone to..." Instead you get contract work from a freelance adventurer agency...five contracts will be included in the initial release. Note, the gameplay itself will be taken fairly seriously...the satire isn't a big part of it.
So, anyone want to take a shot at possible names?
