Dunno if any of those will work on USB drives though...

Sounds like the memorys data is corrupt or windows explorer has got its knickers in a twist.

have you tried using the xcopy command from dos window?:
start>run>"cmd"
try this:

(where e: is the driveletter of the usbstick):
c:
cd\
md temp
xcopy e:\. c:\temp /s
cd temp
dir

(i think thats right, im used to linux/unix these days :)
if you get "data error reading drive E:" or "invalid media error" then start to worry. Ive had data errors in the past when i havent 'stopped' the drive from the device list before pulling it out, theres a fair chance it can really cock things up.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say you'll never see that data again. Sorry.

It costs, but there is no better solution for recovering data. I know; I have to recover all my wife's PhD stuff from an accidentally deleted USB drive the other night (and, thankfully, it wasn't me who did the deleting. I heard an "Uh-oh" followed by a "Ok wifey, don't panic" which was followed in very short order by "Neil!!!!")

Im with Flame, no.

Restoration....its free and it rocks..

Hey - let us know if you get the files back...that Restoration looks like a great little app. Boy - there are some nice people on the web doing stuff for free.

..I'm sure its working just fine...I use to recover plenty of files with it (and earn some small cash) hehehhe

Bit of a thread hijack, but anyone here know a way to repartition a Flash/Jump Drive?

Not the first time this has happened to me, same issue that caused it also, either the PC crashed while reading from the device, or a program did, which locked it in a position where it wouldn't stop reading, forcing me to have to take it out...

Just can't recall for the life of me what I did last time.
(can't even initialize the thing via Computer Management.)

There's a difference between deleted accidentally, and corrupted.

I agree with FlameDuck... if the files were there, and suddenly they're not... and he didn't prompt the deletion..

It just doesn't look good.

Genexi,

When you plug in the drive do you at least get an icon for it?

If so you should be able to right click and select Format.

Nope Floyd, the parition on it is busted, so it won't appear as a proper drive/removable-device on My Computer.

Still can't figure out how the hell I fixed it last time...
