“I’ve finished my game - now what?”

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/“I’ve finished my game - now what?”

Someone just emailed me and asked for my thoughts on releasing games onto portals and I wrote back an epic email which I've now turned into a blog entry so that everyone can benefit from it. Please check it out and leave some comments if you feel inclined, thanks!

P.S. I know that my blog has a big blank space on IE 7 and a can't figure out why at the moment. I know it's unpro, sorry, I'll fix it soon... ;-)

Heh - I think I know who emailed you. ;)

I'm not saying who it is in case they don't want to be identified.

No probs. He was just chatting to me on IRC about talking to you, though. :)

oh well I hope "they" don't mind (you've already partially given away the identity i.e. gender, mind you there's not to many women around here - shame).

oops. I may be in for a slap. :/

Well, GFK has finished his game and I know a couple of others that have also but my guess is GFK. GFK has finished his game. A Games was finished by GFK. It was GFK who finished his game.

Nice article by the way. :) There was a spelling mistake though. look for the word 'poeple'.

This warrants a bookmarkin'.

Thanks, kind sir.

Yes, it was me who emailed Grey Alien.

well the cat's out the bag now GfK. I hope you don't mind me posting it as I thought it would be useful to others (I did kinda go off on one). Thanks for emailing me btw, I'm flattered and I hope that what I said was useful...

I really want to see your game as I only know scant details ;-)

Amon: I can't find that word, weird.

It'll probably be useful tomorrow when I read it sans beer goggles :)

I wonder if beer goggles make articles look better too?

Amon: I can't find that word, weird.

Yep, Sorry my mistake. The word is 'preoperly'. It's in the text that talks about TryMedia.

:)

LOL @ Amon - let the cat out of the bag there.

Amon: Thanks dude, fixed. And yeah luckily GFK is not offended!

Can we see the finished game, GFK?

I'm very eager to see what you have made in BMax. :)

I promise I'll be constructive with my comments if it doesn't happen to be my cup o' tea. :)

Not yet - I don't want to show it until I'm 100% happy with it and there's nothing on my 'to do' list. Gone are the days when I start showing screenshots at the first alpha build. :)

Unfortunately the testers keep finding little problems here and there, and suggesting other cool stuff to add. Its only been in Beta a week and already I'm up to v1.07. :/

Anyhoo, its set for official release on 30th March so I'm going to be flat out on it for the next few days at least.

More news soon.

Cool, no prob. I look forward to seeing it and even buying it. :)

Can you confirm atleast that it's not a Match 3? :)

Pop (Thats a champagn bottle) fzzzzzzzz @ GFK

well at least you are refining it, but don't do that forever or you'll never get it out there. OK roll on March 30th so we can all gape in awe!

Those bas****s, Ignore them! That's what the industry does... just ship it and get the money! You can always release patches later... :)

Good luck GfK, not like you'll need it you seem to have your bases covered. As for testers, their useful to a point - but it's amazing just how long those ' nice little touches ' can take to implement.

I've rushed games out before and it doesn't pay. I'd rather get it as close to 'right' as possible and avoid masses of tech support problems later.

'The industry' can afford a poor reputation. Indies can't.

Yeah, I've spent all day today adding a "should be a five minute job" feature. Its the little touches that make the difference though, I think.

yeah polish sells. But still there is a certain point where you just gotta get it out there and start on the next one.

its ok by me..... keep it coming

Preoperly eh? Did you write this post in the future before you corrected the mistake?

I don't mind. I'd like to have my blog correct but forum posts don't matter as they are typed in haste anyway.
