well.. business-wise it makes sense. Since the more users using the OS the better it looks to people who would develope their product for it. Doesn't matter how legit they are.

And illegitamate users still might buy other software that MS makes. Where-as a linux user will prolly not.

That crack is worthless if you ever want to use Windows Update, but as far as cracks go it's the most impressive yet. Though it's still more of a hack than a crack.

Probably every major software title in history has been cracked at some point, and it seems useless to put too much effort into avoiding it. But it makes no sense that Microsoft would almost encourage piracy of Vista - that's just weird. Is Linux really that big of a competitor now?

I knew some people that obtained serials for windows Xp, registered to colleges. Unlimited site license. BTW, I would advise against downloading pirated software. There is ALOT of malware in those programs and the best a/v only picks up about %60 of it....if I were you I'd be running a packet sniffer 24/7 and checking for any suspicious ip addresses connecting to your box that shouldn't be. I know I do and I dont even d/l much of anything.

There's another one that actually activates Vista the proper way... Update tested (not by me - I happed to buy a new laptop a couple of weeks ago with Vista on it...)

Yes yes, that was probably this one mentioned here. The thing is, while obviously Windows Update is working now, all it takes is a simple Windows Update Update (or WGA update, not sure if WGA is in Vista, but you'd think there's something similar) to block a few extra keys and you're back at square one.
