So first it was Gabe Newell, now Larry Probst says Sony are in trouble.

Don't forget my declaration that the PS3 is bent. That alone could lead to tens of thousands not buying it.

$600.00 in the US? How come we are paying £500.00 in the UK? Most unfair - considering the Dollar is bent compared to the Pound.

Best thing you can do is wait a few months, let the sales be low and then they have to lower the price to increase sales, which means you get it cheaper than the stupid price it is at

A new report from Newsweek, spied today on GameSpot, places further blame for problems concerning the PS3 at Sony, firmly on the doorstep of Ken Kutaragi, the PlayStation godfather who was recently 'moved' into the role of Chairman at Sony Computer Entertainment. Reports in recent months had blamed Kutaragi's 'slowness' for the PS3 losing exclusive titles like GTA IV and Assassin's Creed.

The Newsweek report additionally alleges that the former SCE president was shuffled because of a lack of communication with Sony CEO Sir Howard Stringer. The report, which includes an interview with Stringer himself, says Kutaragi was 'uncommunicative', and often failed to relay important decisions to Stringer, overall Sony head-honcho.

The interview adds that Kutaragi failed to inform Stringer of the PS3's production problems, and that he also allowed development to go over budget without informing higher-level bosses. Stringer is also said to be unhappy over Kutaragi's advise to cut the price of the PS3 in Japan, which the Sony boss believes could have been a subsequently poor decision.

Stringer allegedly tells the magazine that he had attempted to repair relations and build a partnership, but with little success ("I've had dinner with [Kutaragi] more times than I've had dinner with my wife, and that's not really healthy"). Kutaragi is now involved more heavily in game development, while Kaz Hirai runs Sony Computer Entertainment in the role of president.

Back to the original question, why do we want to buy consoles?

If console games are PC Game clones, there's no need to get one, Wii just beat this, and X360 catch the indie field...uh... what about PS3?

Actually these days I find it's the other way around. PC games I've gotten this year are Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Jade Empire - both console ports.

I didn't mean the same game title with different platform, actually I mean the gameplay, my words are a bit misleading. Although it's rarely to see match-3 or zuma on consoles.. but gameplay of consoles didn't get better on recent console master pieces like Tekken, FF... etc.

Here is a good personal example.

I wanted a new game system. I was considering an XBOX360, Wii or PS3. This was in Nov of 2006.

I buy game consoles to play games. I am not concerned with watching movies on them (I have a subscription to Netflix, Satellite TV and a bunch of DVD players). I also have an MP3 player for listening to music.

I tried out all 3 systems. played Motorstorm (it froze up). Played Gears of War (very cool , really liked it but the WOW graphics fades after awhile). Played Excite Truck (not very impressed)


then I played Wii Sports Bowling. I was hooked.

problem was, I could not find a Wii anywhere.
360s were in abundant supply.

After the launch circus was over, there were PS3's showing up everywhere. I could have bought one fairly easily.

Finally got lucky and found one online.


Sony has had a string of very bad (self inflicted) problems. The Rootkit fiasco, the overpriced PS3, The Hardware Delays, they consistently lie to their consumers.

I once loved Sony. had a PS2, a Trinitron, a walkman, even considering a big Sony Tat on my back.

I am now a Nintendo fan. Have a DS, a Wii and unnaturally idolize Miyamoto as a sort of demi-God.

I love twilight Princess, me and my kids play super mario 64 and Zelda Ocarina of time on the virtual console. I even use the web browser occasionally (it is perfect for zipping out of a game of windwaker to check for a 'hint')
(I also play Gamecube games on it)

My wife NEVER touched the PS2 and now we play bowling occasionally and she created all of the Mii's for our system.

Nintendo has done something right.

I have always been a bit of a graphics whore, and still am. I love watching screengrabs/videos of the latest tech. Usually though, the Game that goes along with it is rather disapointing. (ala Doom3)

Sony needs to make some fun games, then I will consider buying a PS3. (OH and drop the price about 200 bucks)

Yeah. I'm in that boat.. the graphics are a marvel. I just don't feel a need to pay out the ass for some eye-candy.. I can watch most of it online.

Aside from Doom3 (which everyone agees sucked anyways), which other big name game can generally be considered crappy with only good graphics?

PC's aren't mainstream enough yet.

Locked architecture and the subsequent ease of use and stability from that still gives consoles the edge.

Oh, I'd say that even tho Sony's PS3 is a dying console, I'd have to say that their immediate competition in Nintendo is only getting that much stronger in the market. So, you have a console that keeps piling up on shelves in the PS3, but then again, you have a little console that could in the Wii that you can hardly EVER see on ANY shelf. I'm guessing in the HD Console wars, I think that Microsoft had Sony right where they wanted them. Then again, X360 has its problems, but at least you have better games on that console... For now. If you're lucky to see a Wii, just grab that the first moment you see it, don't fool around.

For over $250 cheaper, hell I'd buy it over a $600 system. Doesn't mean that its a better system.

Wrong. Good games with reasonable load times, and fun for the whole family are what gives the consoles the edge.

Nobody ever buys the better system. VHS vs. BetaMax? iPod vs. everything else? People buy the system that has the most compelling reasons to buy. Right now the only compelling reason to buy a PS3 is that you might want to build a top 500 supercomputer cluster with enough of them. Of course even though they're "piling up on shelves", I doubt many people could find 10K of them on a shelf somewhere, or for that matter the 6 million dollars you'd need to buy them, and even then you'd still need to want/need a supercomputer in the first place.

Hmmm, a supercomputer might be able to run Tiberian Sun under Cedega/VMWare at a decent speed...
