I was worried when I learned that Google video was going to drop video hosting and become just a video search engine.
Turns out, though, that there was nothing to be worried about it. They just changed it in the last day, it looks like, and so far there still exists "New! Upload your videos", with a nice and straight-forward uploading mechanism and the usual good set of options. (You can have unlisted videos, videos over 100 MB, loads of formats, superior servers doing the hosting of course, and decent quality).
So it's not the sad loss I had been bracing for :)
Why does Google do it like this, though? Why not just have a single cohesive search engine instead of all these different URLs?
It's just my obsession with cohesiveness - nobody else minds - but I think it's ugly that Google's Video search engine is in the slightest bit different from the usual search page. Why does it get RSS output, while neither image nor regular old HTML search do?
Anyway, good news...
