ATI's latest Catalyst 7.2

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/ATI's latest Catalyst 7.2

I've got to say that ATI's Catalyst 7.2 is a complete overhaul and people are reporting multiple benefits.

However, since installing it, if I leave my PC alone for about 10 minutes, it takes me back to the log-in screen - the screen were you choose a user account. Anyone else getting this? I'm not sure I like it doing that.

Still, Catalyst 7.2 certainly seems like a major step forward. I am dissapointed that instead of ATI fixing their problems with the 3D preview display to work across the range of GPUs, that they have now totally removed it and replaced it with a new static system - they imply this is a better way or representing the changes to graphical settings. Personally, I think it is a cop-out and they couldn't fix 3D preview.

Well, it is a better way. Cos it works.

The Vista version has two moving 3D views side by side, one before and one after, which works a lot better. Not sure why they couldn't do this with the XP version as well.

This is Windows default behaviour (at least for Media Center Edition). Has nothing to do with ATi. My laptop does this (or rather it used to) and it has an nVidia chipset.

You can disable fast user switching if you don't want it to do that.

Since there is so little difference between the two OSes, I'm going to go out on a limb here, and suggest that DX10 is probably why.

You've been out on so many limbs you should change your name to Tarzan ;)

You're probably right, though.

Check your screensaver options?

I'm running Catalyst 5.3 myself (Radeon 9600 Pro). I tried the 6.x version, but absolutely hated the color profile adjustments that I needed to make my display look good --- 5.3 gave me more control over those than version 6.
