winxp sp2 images not loading

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/winxp sp2 images not loading

Whenever I go on to www.google.com the images dont load,
are there any new security settings on service pack 2 that would make this happen?
when I right click and press 'show image' it doesnt do anything

...what browser are you using?

Is this with IE7, or are you using Firefox/Mozilla/who knows what?

Are images from other sites working OK?

Is "Show Pictures" checked in 'Internet Options' -> 'Advanced'?

Did you install any 3rd party ad-blocking software at the same time, by any chance?

thanks for the help

show images is checked
Im using IE 6.0
quite a few images are missing from other sites as well, at random

actually it started when i installed the latest flash player, i was unable to install it then i allowed it to download the yahoo toolbar.

Then when the toolbar was about to install, I pressed cancel and winXP removed some registry entries.

Install IE7.

Upgrading to IE7, changing to Firefox or writing hate mail to Bill Gates isn't going to solve the problem.

Its possibly a cacheing problem. Clear your browser cache and flush out DNS, see if that helps.

i had this problem once, i basically did what gfk said as well as deleting all other temp stuff.

If not, writing hate mail at least will make you feel better :)

sorry for being dumb, how do i flush dns?

from the commandline:

ipconfig /flushdns

I doubt that it will make a difference though, considering that you have the problem with multiple different sites.

But clearing the browser cache out might very well make a difference. While you're at it, you may want to crank down the size of the browser cache as well. I have mine set to 10MB, and it works great. By default IE will dedicate something like 12% of your harddrive for its temporary files. In my experience, if you're on broadband it's faster to just re-download a couple of images than IE trying to locate old copies of them among 15GB of cached junk.
