Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/3D Scan for Free

I just found this

There is a free version (free for any purpose - commercial or not) it looks interesting, anyone want to try and show the results?

bah

This isn't for free IMHO. Ok, the software may be for free, and maybe it's a good program, but anyhow.

A solution that is even cheaper and simpler may be project "DAVID" (seems rather unpolitical noless) that was discussed recently in the content creation tools section IIRC.

Seems like 3D scanners would be useless for realtime modeling. Am I wrong?

For realtime rendering? maybe. But it's fun. Or you may reduce the polycount first by a good reducer tool and second tri by tri in an editor. Depends on the object. Probably makes sense with a Human head that should look natural. And: from the original high poly mesh you can create top quality bumpmaps.

thanks for the link!

Coupled with Silo and its paint-on-topology tool, this could prove very useful :D
