BlitzCoder ... might be back!

Whos going to post there? Most of the people who used to hang about there will have long since found other places to be annoying.

I have to say my first reaction was the same as GFK's ( on the link ) I'd be very interested to know who would be reopening the site. Krylar was a really nice guy, and he ran a really pleasant community site. He had some great moderators like Spec and Mordy ( and some retard called Gabriel who clearly bribed his way into being a mod ) and the community included a lot of people who could ( but don't ) post here, so a site like that would definitely be worth visiting.

When it ceased to be run by Krylar, both community members and moderators moved away, and over time it became dull, lifeless and noob/warez-infested. I wouldn't have any interest in a site like that.

I'll go back.

I wonder if my account will still work?

hahahahahahahah

Ive never yet gone to an Indie programing site that you are not a member of. You even post at TGC. (Well ok so do I).

The showcase and code archives worked well, and were interesting to browse through.

Furtunately, you still can browse the showcase.

I was more surprised that devcrunch forums have closed down, wow, that wasn't around for long.

Haven't rumours of blitzcoders return been around for ages? last I read was the devcrunch forums were to get the lot but I guess that's not gonna happen now.

The site's still alive and kicking, just the forums are gone. We're actually getting more traffic now, so no complaints here.

I've learned to take certain promises with a pinch of salt. We were told we'd be given access to the blitzcoder archives to transfer them over, then I heard from someone else (a reliable source) that the plans had changed.

I wish blitzcoder luck, and hope it goes 100% independent. There's no reason our sites can't co-exsist, especially now DC's changed direction.

Why not just post here... ? I suppose it's always good for a back up, but this community seems quite strong....

I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have another repository to trawl for example code snippets.

I guess the old permissions issue came up again? It's hard when so many people have moved on. Legally you can't assume someone gives permission unless they explicitly say so, and it's such a shame that the articles go to waste.

FWIW, anyone is welcome to take the only article I wrote on there. If it's worth anything, that is, it's so old now, and my knowledge of C was so basic, that I'd probably cringe to read it again now.

Nice to see that DevCrunch has found a new direction!
I didn't really see a reason for it back when it was yet another game development forum. Instead having it as a really nice looking resources site is the best thing that could happen, in my opinion :)
I'd love to see it grow toward user-generated content as well, such as with BlitzCoder's articles and things, but I guess that can wait. Maybe an article submission system would work well?
Acting as an aggregator of sites like this one would also work well.
Suffice it to say, I have finally bookmarked DevCrunch.

Did anyone else notice that Idigicon finally removed their link to CodersWorkshop last month? (And that the CodersWorkshop stand-in page continues to exist, probably costing someone money for no reason whatsoever).

Err... Good news about BlitzCoder, I guess, though I don't think its return will be as heroic as it would have been 2 years ago. A new approach would be necessary, although if those tutorials came back then they would have a great head start. (As long as it is still under the name BlitzCoder it wouldn't hurt, right?)

Ooh, speaking of Blitz resources, what ever became of BlitzWiki's overhaul? It's still down :(

As for showcases, I think Indiepath's stuff with Pjio/CraftyMunky/"That games site" may end up being a great replacement to the now all dead blitz showcases.

Thanks for your comments Picklesworth. It's good to know we're finally getting it right :)

That's a main priority right now (on both points), as user-content is important.

In the mean time, if anyone has anything to submit, make an account and fire off an email asking for author priviledges. Most people will be accepted (certain people won't). The advantage to authors is, we'll link to you and you can link to yourself at the bottom of an article.

Absolutely. Pjio has massive potential and I'm keeping an eye on it. I think the days of competing communities is coming to an end. If any of us are to survive, we need to co-exsist, so I expect a lot of positive changes this year. :)

I loved BC. I found it much more helpful than this one at the time. Not sure if that would be the case if it is reopened.

I hope so. I've never understood the mentality behind it. Sites always benefit more from doing the best for their members and encouraging the sharing of all resources available.

What helped BC for the most part (in the earlier days) if you ask me, was that it didn't require a BUID to register to post, unlike this forum, it allowed people who were learning programming for the first time, or people trying out the demos, to get a better grasp and what not since there was a community devoted to the said line of BRL products...

Was a nice place, great showcase, lots of articles written up, good helpful members (aside from the odd spammer/idiot), I don't really think that'll ever be the case again though if it does indeed reopen. I migrated fully over to BB.com once BC closed, and I'd rather it stayed that way.

Anyways, wasn't Specis the one who was leading the BC site before it got closed by Idigi? And it was Cyberseth with the CodersWorkshop, perhaps one of them has something to do with this.

Well the reason CW closed ( or so we were told ) was that Seth couldn't continue to administrate. Can't remember if he was just too busy, or if he wasn't working for Idigi any more. So I doubt it'd be him.

I hope so. I've never understood the mentality behind it.
Competition benefits the consumer. Without competition there is no incentive to improve. Take Vista for example.

Seth moved on to pastures new, so doesn't work for Idigicon anymore. Specis has moved on as well, personal reasons, I believe.

It would be nice to to see BC back, but I suspect that a lot of the old members have moved on, either to other forums and/or other languages, or just generally in terms of their lives.

The articles and particularly the showcase were the best features of that site. Since CW went down there is no longer a showcase and that's one thing we could really do with. Now whenever we want feedback we have to post a thread here. If we had a proper showcase here, that would be something.

@JaazieB: Signed! Would be fine to get a good showcase-section here.

Yep blitzcoder was "the site".. it had verry nice gfx and was only about blitz basic. :) Still my early voidrpg exist there :) )

the new voidrpg kia 2006 is on www.voidrpg.com
but now im building aka 2007 and maby it will be my first post on blitzcoder.

Why do i stick to blitz basic.. its simple.. no ned to know c#

I'd like to see BC back online, the showcase was very good
and I loved the political discussions in the OT-forum :o)
...and lots of grrrreat tuts too.

I liked BC because it had many of the same people as here but you could also have general discussion and get to know people socialy, makes it easier to form teams and work with people if you get a chance to get to know them better first.

On here, everyones kind of anonymouse and no one knows what interests they have in common with other members.
