Anyone else going? I am looking forward to it!
GDC 2007
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/GDC 2007 I'm going. See you there!
I'd like to but my game isn't far enough along for show and tell so I'm going to pass this year.
Tell me how it goes.
Tell me how it goes.
Hi Dustin. Annika talked to John Carmack on MySpace.
"Beaker" - I'll go with you.
I'm not going. Too expensive. It would cost over $1000 just to make the trip, and to stay a week, plus another $1500-$2000 for the conference pass.
I went to one in Boston. They didn't have an expo, they just did the talks. And I didn't really feel that I learned anything from the talks. The only good thing about it was meeting other developers, but the opportunities for that were limited because everyone hangs out in their little cliques of people they know.

You can just go to the expo for about $200, I think. I'm just going to look at the expo and pass out pamphlets. I got a lot of business after I went last year, so this time I am printing up a freakin' box full of pamphlets. Last year I met people from Ageia, Beyond Virtual, and Garage Games. It was pretty funny, because the chick I brought would ask random people if they knew who I was, and she thought I paid them to say yes.
If anyone has any literature they want passed out at the expo, I can set that up.

Usually, I'd call BS on such a comment. But knowing Annika's amazing gift for networking... I believe it 100%. Very cool.

Heh, I wonder who tipped you off about GDC last year? :) Glad for your success!
i live in germany. so there is no way for me to get there. too expensive like sswift said.
Just go, they reimburse you with free drinks.
free chicks would be better ;)
"Beaker" is so excited that we are going together.
I'm going... got a GigaPass. Should be fun trip, I've never been to Frisco before so it's nice too see that too... we also have one extra day reserved just for sightseeing.
I've been in San Fran for about 4 days now and its been fun. Shame I'm having to work so much while I've been here. Really want some time off to go see some nature and other big tourist stuff. Food is tasty here, but the portions are ridiculously huge (from a UK perspective). Saw the (final) chinese new year celebrations the other night which attracted crowds like I've never seen before.
Something I've really noticed here (compared to the UK) is that all the really poor/homeless people are from one or more of the ethnic minority groups, and they seem to be uncared for on the whole (lack of health care?). It's a stark contrast to the obvious wealth of most other people. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what it going on, but its quite shocking to an outsider.
Wonder what GDC will bring..

San Francisco has more handouts than anywhere in the country. That's why the homeless go there!
I'll be there on Tuesday.
It also has nice weather year round. Another good reason homeless end up there.
Have a great show everyone!

Just got back to hotel, had a full-day session "Creativity Boot Camp"... busy week ahead, but it's great to be here! So much to see, learn and shop. Oh, and I saw the chinese thingy too, good timing to be here just noe :)
Mustang, I saw the Futuremark booth, but I didn't think you were there...and I didn't know your real name.
I got back home last night. I met the staff of the C4 Engine, hung out with the Beyond Virtual guys again, I talked to a LOT of schools who were interested in our editor, and I spoke with a rep. from Valve who gave me a totally bad-ass business card. I also passed a biz card to the Epic people to give to my "arch nemesis" on the Blitz forums, Warren.
It was a lot of fun! Look for the Leadwerks booth at GDC 2008.

I had nothing to do with that booth as I was there for the lectures and "professional" stuff, not on booth duty. Obviously I popped to see the ppl now and then but didn't really spend much time there - even when our (YouGamers) boothbabes were there :) Booth was for our Mobile Dept. marketing and hype and also place where our YG girls handed out flyers and mousemats (got one of course).
I love booth babes but not having been to a show for a few years I got the impression that they were moreorless phased out now as non-"PC"...
That was why E3 bombed.
