Do you think Attack of the Alien Space Beetles is

...too long a name?

(Oh irony, thy name is subject entry field.)

I'm working on my Space Beetles game now. 95% of the art is done. But I'm having second thoughts about the length of the name.

I chose the name because Alien Space Beetles sounds funnier than just Space Beetles, and I plan to make sequels if the game is a success, so I would also potentially have a Return of the Alien Space Beetles and Revenge of the Alien Space Beetles.

Of course I could shorten it to Alien Space Beetles, and then have Alien Space Beetles Return, but those don't sound particularly exciting. Not much action in the name.

But even I have been shortening the name when I refer to the game, usually to Space Beetles, or Alien Space Beetles.

So I don't know what to do. I'd like the name to convey action and humor, and the fact that the game features aliens.

Maybe I should remove the word alien and just go with Attack of the Space Beetles?

So, what do you think?

TBH I think the 'Attack of the Alien Space Beetles' is fine for a name :)

With a name like that i would be expecting cheezy humor (ie funny because its deliberately cheezy like 'mars attacks' was :)

Well a long name doesn't appear to have done "Mystery Case Files: Prime Suspect" any harm. Although it does get shortened to MCF: Prime Suspect.

In which case, your games may be shortened to Attack of the ASB, etc, which wouldn't be too bad, I don't think.

I don't think its too long if the length of it adds to the game's appeal. Long names tend to imply weirdness, which may be a good thing, like Revenge of the Mutant Camels.

Sounds fine to me - much the same sort of vibe as "Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters".

Well this is a surprise. Usually when I ask about making a name change for something everyone has an opinion on what to change it to, but you all seem to actually like the name, so maybe I made the right choice in the first place.

Attack of the Alien Space Beetles it is then!

hmm, sounds a bit like Attack of the Mutant Greys, so it must be fine then ;-)

[edit] Maybe if you gave everthing 8 legs it could be Attack of the Avenging Arachnids. Or maybe Invasion of the Insane Insects or how about Enter the Evil Endopterygotes.

My first B3D game was called 'Attack of the Deranged Killer Space Meanies' and featured authentic SuperHungFromString-O-RamaVisionTM. :o)
